I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab with 48,000 Miles on it which is starting to develope shifting problems. Most of the time it will not upshift until it gets to 3800 RPM and I often have to vary the gas peddle to get it to shift. I checked the codes and it is displaying DTC P1762. Somedays it will shift fine, and somedays it won't downshift. Does anyone have any guesses?

are you sure that code is correct? I checked on the obdII.com site and it came back with it not being a valid DTC code.

Hi crazys182003,

I,m pretty sure the code is correct. I just say's P1762 Manufacturer control transmission. I have also seen it as "P1762 - Governor Pressure Sensor (GPS)"

well the only thing I would suggest is to have a tranny shop take a look. I have heard many people say around 50K-60K most dodge transmissions take a dump. (I bought my dodge around 50K I am hoping to not need a new tranny soon). Sorry I can't help much more.

Thanks to all the have replied to this post. I replaced the shift solenoid and pressure switch and that took care of the problem. Killed me to pay $5.00 a quart for ATF+4, but what are you going to do. Thanks again.

Had this same problem on my 01' Ram 1500 at only 36k miles.(Warranty expired). Went to the dealership, got the Governor Pressure Sensor and a Governor Solenoid (dealership said if u change one u should change both). They were too busy that day so I did it myself. Got the sensor, solenoid, filter, gasket, and trans fluid for $225. I didn't have a clue what I was doing but I dropped the trans pan (about 15 bolts), had to remove a bracket (6 bolts) that held the sensor and solenoid in place (very visible),swapped them in 5 minutes once the pan was off. Took me longer to figure out that I needed an allen wrench for the filter than it did anything else. If it goes out in another 36k miles I could do it in a half hour now that I've done it!

I have the same truck, '01 Ram 1500 Sport, Code P1762 and shifting problems. Just took it to my mechanic and changed the Governor Pressure Sensor and the Solenoid, new filter and new ATF +4. All back together and nothing has changed at all. Same shifting problems and CEL came right back on after the reset with the same code. So what now? Am I to start thinking about a new tranny? HELP!
