Apparently the mr2 is quick

Driving home this morning I exited the freeway to a pretty empty overpass intersection, ending up right next to a shiny red Boxter S. I had about half a tank of gas, which sadly is only 91 octane (my ECU requires like... 94 or 96) so... boost was set back to only what the wastegate was sprung to. Oh yeah, and my stock rims w/ street driving tires (like.. 300 AB rating **barf**). Anyway, light turns green and i take off briskly; it's a nice day (only like 100 today) and driving kind of quickly felt great with the windows down. Apparently he decided that he didn't like having a little beatup 20 year old car taking off like that, and there was tire squeekage and a good deal of engine noise. Normally, I would just ignore something like this and let the idiot fly by and get in front... but it was a Porsche, and i don't like them too much. He launched about the same time i would normally shift into second, so instead as he started to pass me, I dipped into boost... and stayed there into 3rd gear.
The part that shocked me; with everything detracting from how fast my car usually is, by 50mph i was already a good 4 - 5 car lengths ahead. At a little past 60 I decided to just shift up through 4th and 5th and coast out the rest of the acceleration (I had to turn in another block and a half by this point), let the car compression brake for the last half a block then slowed down enough to safely turn. As the Porsche accelerated past behind me.
I had always thought they were faster...
Cliff's notes: Porsche = slow.

Most Porsche's aren't all that great.
Look nice, but meh on the performance. Turbo Porsches though... ooooo
Good run Danno!

Yeah, just the other day I knocked off a VW Bug. It was glorious.
Good run BTW. What does your MR2 run anyway?

Not to mention that he paid well over $30,000 for his car. Not only that, someone forgot to tell him that the Boxster is a chic car. :grinyes:

Nice kill. Porshes are not that fast (relatively) in straight line, but their handling is awesome. Probably better than your MR2.

I doubt they will handle better than that particular MR2. Have you seen the pictures of that thing when it's setup for AutoX?
Friggin huge slicks on all four corners, and fully done up suspension. Dan's MR2 is not to fucked with in a coned environment. :grinno:

Nice kill, but don't forget, Porsche Boxsters aren't too fast (like 6 seconds 0-60), so don't be too proud :D
no seriously, a Boxster S is a worthy enemy.
But uhm... he wins the beauty contest :icon16:

I was referring more the chasis development. The porsche is light years ahead of Mr2s. Don't get me wrong, I love my MR2, but I'd take a Porshe over it any day.

Thats awesome, I like hearing about MR2's being fast. When I was little I always thought MR2's and Fieros were the coolest looking cars anyway. I don't really like the new MR2spider.
