Making A CRX Fast...

Hi. This may have been covered before but I couldn't find a thread that answered my question so if it has, please post a link and I'll be more than happy to look it up. Anyways, how much money do you think I would have to drop under the hood of a CRX to make it doa 13-14 second 1/4 mile? Thanks.

well... depends...

anywhere from 1500 to 15000$

choose your poison
Turbo, Nitrous, N/A, supercharger, Jet engine, 3 Donkeys Tripping on Acid...

to get into the 14's rather cheaply... with a CRX Si

1. Gut the interior -- Free ( might make money if you sell the stuff)
2. DIY Junkyard turbo kit with Intercooler -- 700 to 1200$
3. Free flow exaust system -- 2-300$

with a Desent driver this Should get you in the 14-13's

I am spending about 6000$ for a Fully Built High Comp N/A B16a with Direct Port Nitrous and I should be running 12's.

I have two friends who have Fully Built D16z6 with turbo, they expect to be running 12's as well. they spent about 6000$ as well.

these are cnd$ too

Okay, thanks. Did they do all the labor themselves?

all that we can do, it's obviously mate its ways to the machine shop for boring and stuff, but mostly we did the work.

I'd say around $2500 to $3000 depending on how much labor costs. But, a 13 second car that had $2500 put into it will have had to def. sacrifice some reliability. So to have a safe reliable daily driver in the 13s I would look closer to $5000 if everything was done correctly.
Remember "Better safe than sorry", otherwise it will cost you in the long run

kingpinn, what can you do to make it more reliable? like tuning and engine building instead of stock internals?

well if you boost i would atleast put in a block gaurd if not low compression pistons and definetly get it tuned. But why are you asking me Ice X? You know all this stuff, I learned a lot by reading your old posts. Ice X I think your the one that taught me it wasnt safe to run anymore than seven pounds of boost on the a6. (I dont mean to sound like a smart ass, Iam being serious I have learned a lot from you.)

PS. hot damn this is my 500th post

Overkill for his goal :p :)

i say just lighten the car, z6 or y8 swap, i/h/e and small spray; that's good for 14s though.

there's a guy that's with the 1320video.com crew: has a 89 EF hatch, its got stripped interior, stock b16a (w/ i/h/e im guessing), and 75hp shot of nitrous and is running 12.9@108 with slicks.

I heard block guards don't do anything and can actually cause problems with coolant flow.

thats what i would figure with the guards, i saw a four ring guard on ebay that looks like it just slides between the cyl and block but that would disrupt the coolant flow and cause the engine to run hotter, but that is my opinion and what the hell do i know.

if you really need to run a block guard, you can try to find scalloped ones. I know Golden Eagle sell one for the B-series, but never checked if they have them for D-motors.

a setup that i like better than block guards is block posting/pinning. it supports the sleeves where the rod angle is the steepest; but you have to drill and tap the block to do that.

They do work, however, you have to make sure they are put in right and welded. Posting is better though like stated above.

Okay, thanks. I know this is probably the wrong forum to ask it in but what do you guys think is a good car that isn't to expensive, that can later be upgraded to run 13's reliably without massive amounts of money (<---$2500)?
