Settle down "theenlightement", to get a skyline in the states you need to have big time money, and a skyline will take that much to more to go as fast as you think needs to be. Not to be a kill joy but aim for like a vr-4 or a 300zx tt, there fast and the states have them.

You don't just need money to get a Skyline in the States. You'd need an outright miracle, such as the owner of a previously legalzed car giving theirs up.

No one is legalizing Skylines anymore. Motorex is pretty much history, and RB Motoring is waiting for approval to do work on the cars.

If you have done your homework you know you could have a Skyline state legal and save all that motorex cash for mods, but then again I can see this kid get a Skyline as a first car and not properly reg it at the federal level get in a wreck and have a huge write up in the paper about how illegal imported cars should all be crushed, which I really hope does not happen.

Anyways if you did your homework like I did there is another way too. You just have to look hard enough.

yeah man the poimy of the forum is to SHARE information not hoard it. answer people's questions when you know the answer, one of the biggest running arguements is about legalizing skyline, so if you have some other way of doing it (which i really really really doubt) sharing it would be greatly appreciated by all, i am sure.

hypothetically, if motorex was still legalizing skylines....no that would not be possible. the cars HAVE to be brought in by a registered importer. the car can ONLY be brought in by a registered importer. after the car reaches the RI, the car MUST be legalized before being released onto united states streets.

nismo_power

no......its not legal. the cars still have to be brought in by an RI, but they cant be legalized. so then the car would sit at the RI for years and years and years (depending on the year of the car). 2014 is when we can get 1989 r32's free and clear, and personally...with that deadline quickly approaching, i dont see any RI's really stepping up to the plate to pick up motorex's slack.

so what u r saying u cant tow down a skyline form canada and let it sit in the garage the after a year u go and get it legal?

the major difference is the laws for importing cars into canada vs into the states. In canada it only has to be 15 years old right, so it hasnt been modified to the american DOT's specs. just because its was legal in canada doesnt negate this fact.

Sh*t Miracles can happen right? Anyways the S14 is a good car and converting a 240sx to a S14 or 15 is another good idea but until you know for sure that you can't get it, don't give up. Some of the people got it, just keep searching and something will come up. I am currently looking for ways to bring a skyline in the states and still no cigar, so I have nothing to share with you even if i wanted to. IF something comes up I will definitly let you know kid. Its only a temporary import. You can bring it in for shows or displays and then you have to export it after a year. I have done it for several cars/ companies.

Normally you can not drive it on the road, although you can request permission to operate the vehicle on a highway.

Just check on the temporary import section on the nhtsa.dot.gov website.

Motorex.... hmm. Good question. I dont know what they are doing. Still trying to figure it out.

RB Motoring is an RI, but has never legalized a GT-R.

RB Motoring is an RI. They can import anything. The problem is legalizing cars.

Any RI can import any car, but actually getting them though the DOT and EPA regulations is the issue.

You could always do what I did....join the military. Then it's just a matter of getting stationed SOMEWHERE (ANYWHERE) overseas (UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan, etc) and then you can buy a Skyline free and clear. Granted you won't be able to bring it back with you to the US. I thought this might be a problem, but then I decided I like it wayyyyyy too much being overseas to go back. So now as long as I stay overseas, I can have ANNNNNNYYYYY car that I want (well, within my price range at least). I'll be stationed in Japan in late 06, and I've got the cash saved up for a decent R34 GT-R (maybe not pristine, somewhere in the $35k US range).

If you are worried about getting killed in the military, just join the Air Force and do an office job, or aircraft maintenance or something. I'm deployed right now, have been for about 4 months, haven't heard a gunshot or mortar yet. :)

Nope....no Skyline yet, I still got a little bit before I'm in Japan, next April. Turns out I'm going to Kadena Air Base on Okinawa, I don't know what the tuner culture is like there, hopefully it won't be too hard sourcing a good condition R32 GT-R.

On another note, I just sold my Eclipse (92 GSX), I managed to get it up to 334whp, which isn't too bad considering how little money I actually spent on it.

I'm deployed right now, serving some time in Qatar, not all that dangerous here, just hot as hell and they work us to the bone. 14hr shifts, 6 days on, 1 day off. I'm making some decent extra cash though to put towards the Skyline once I get to Japan.

Also, think I found my favorite R32 that I've seen thus far.
http://www.toprpm.com/eng/features/feature_18.htm
I doubt I could achieve the 900+hp that this one has (not that I would even want to) but I think looks-wise this is the best one I've seen. All of the body mods compliment the shape of the 32, they don't change the car, I especially like the spoiler, and OH MY GOD the wheels on that thing are beautiful! Those are called Nismo LM's or something right? Now I know what to model my Skyline after if I pick up an R32 instead! :naughty:

Well, I'm an E-4, and it's not positive that I'm going to Kadena yet. I didn't have much available on my equal listing, Kadena, Misawa, Honduras, and Lajes. So I just put all of those down. I'll probably end up in Honduras or Portugal for a year. As a follow-on Kadena will be my third choice, Yokota first, then Misawa, then Kadena, so we'll see what happens.

Also I'm old enough to know better about speeding, used to have a bad record, now I've had a clean record for the last 4 years. As far as the modding crackdown at Kadena goes, I've been reading about it on Zeroyon, looks like fun :banghead: ..... so hopefully Yokota and Misawa are a little different...but either way, I'll just be happy to be in Japan.

Thanks for the info!
