So was going to the mall with my friend, doing about 72 or so in a 65....Radar detector started going off. Didn't think anything of it. 72 in a 65 is nothing. Kept going, seen the cop driving the opposite way...He slows down real quick and drives across the grass into my lane...Pulls me over and says i was doing 79 in a 65. So i gave him license, registration and proof of insurance...Comes back with a citation! I asked him if i could see his certificate of radar calibration and he didn't have it! I think his radar gun is out of whack because i wasn't doing 79. So i'm thinking about going to court over this......Goddamn cops!

Whoa that was totaly gay! lol go complain to the court. I hate those gayass cops that likes to f*ck with us. I like lazy cops where they see u going fast on the oppsite side lane and just look and do nothing. Good luck man and i hope that cop loses!

I would go to court and tell them that you had your cruise control set at 70 or 72, and tell them that the officer didnt have the calibration papers. And tell them that the radar gun was probably out of wack!

Good luck!

You don't need calibration papers. The officers word is good enough. All he has to say is that he had a clean line of view, and what the target speed was. That is a fact.

There are radar "guns" mounted on each police cars dash that work while they are moving. Handhelds are rarely used.

fight that bastard cop!

Go to court. Half the time i hear about cops not even showing up, and the charges are dropped. Even if he does show up, you have a valid arguement when he couldnt even show you his papers, which if he had them would be no big deal. The guy sounds like a newb, who would pull someone over doing 72 in a 65 anyway, and not have his gun calibrated properly? I do that without winking, and watch an Infinity go by me doin 90. Good luck, if all else fails, theres always driving school. Pay the $50 for the school, you dont pay the ticket fine, and the insurance is clueless.

Well, not every cop car...I think the only cop cars that have that tech is highway cops and shit like that (most likey because theres not a whole lot of them in one area....cops in chicago at least and NY or any other big city have got to have special radars put in their car when they go out for a seach to fill the months quota...

Coming from a person that has three police officers in the family, one a county deputy, and two state troopers: Two of them live in Michigan, the other in New York city. None of the have "quotas" you speak of to fill. They dont get anything extra to write 1,000 tickets a month for speeding tickets or any other types. They have a job to maintain a safe environment, and thats what they do.

Its not easy at all to fight a cop.....the judge is much more likely to beleive the cop instead of you.....the word of a cop goes a loooong way versus the word of a "citizen". Worse comes to worse he can just say that you were speeding faster than the general and safe flow of traffic.

But if you don't have any recent citations driving school is def the way to go.

I've had a few friends who got pulled over with the same situation. The guy I bought my eclipse from said he got pulled over by a cop, and the cop asked him how fast he was going and he said "I don't know". And the cop said, well I know you were going faster than me so I'll just write you a ticket for 10 over. And my friend said, wait, you don't know how fast I was going? Can I see how fast you clocked me with your radar? And the cop goes back to his cop car for a few minutes, then comes up to my friend and says, I'll let you go with a warning this time. You should've asked to see his proof of how fast you were going before he wrote you the ticket. Not that it really matters, most likely the judge will give you the option to just take a driver's safety course and your ticket won't go on your record. You'll just have to pay court costs and the cost to take the class.

If you have gotten other tickets before you, might want to get a lawyer. My step mom is a lawyer and if you bring one, they usually take a couple points off. It just depends upon the coast of the lawyer vs. the coast and points of the ticket. With a good lawyer you might be able to get out of it fully with out going to court. And most lawyers and judges don't like cops that much.

I got an 8 point reckless driving ticket that I got down to 3 and a class with a small fine as well. The lawyer went in before the time and did the whole thing with out me needing to wait.

well luckily this happened out of state and i won't be given any points. also my insurance won't know about it. just like before i got pulled over in ohio for doing 94 in a 65. the fine was like $147. i thought it was fairly cheap. no points and no insurance raise :) i think i'll just go to court anyway.

I like that rule. I Mass I got pulled over for doing 81 and in NJ I got pulled over for doing 90 both in 65 zones and the cops gave me a disregard of traffic signs, a fine of $50 and $70. And no points.
