323 Wont Jump Start

I had jump started my car 4 weeks ago. It worked fine and drove it around. Then I had to go out of town and left the car in the garrage for 2 weeks.
The car was completely dead. I tried jump starting the car. All lights come on the dashboard light but when I turn the key I only hear a click. When I turn the key the Xenon lamps also turn on even though the headlight switch is set to off.
After 5 attempts to jump start I gave up.
Any ideas what could be the problem

try changing batteries
