I have a 99 Sierra (V-6) that won't start. I thought at first it may have issue with the fuel pump but I put a small amount of gas in the TB and that had no results. Next I replaced the crankshaft sensor,no luck. I checked for spark @ the number 1 plug wire, no spark. I removed the air cleaner and checked for spark from the coil, no spark and coil has a white /gray flash marks on the sides. At this point one could assume that the coil is bad, but I hate to keep spending money on swapping out components only to have no results. Has anyone else had this issue?

I tried new coil before unbolting old one and truck started. Removed old coil and installed new one but friggin truck wouldn't start, what the hay. Had son turn engine over and started wiggling wires. Guess what? Wire in connecter plug going into coil loose. This problem still had to fry old coil. I have digital pictures of burn marks if anyone is interested.Seems like alot of people are having the same symptoms with the same truck. Check those wires.

If the center plug on the cap three wire plug doesn't make contact, the ground return for the secondary of the coil is lost and the spark will jump where it can. this will cause the arcing trail and ruin the coil. It also can ruin the center electrode in the cap which is the other end of the secondary. Also it can burn out the amp in the distributor.
