It happened...

Well, most of you can probably guess what has happened just by reading the title. But I'll give you the details anyway. As you may know, I have been dying, and I do mean DYING, to race the old man. I have tried numerous times before, and I had failed miserably of course. Although, my dad and I share the same interests in cars, and he would also enjoy putting money into his car, but he doesn't have the time to do it. Well, a few months ago, I bought him an K&N FIPK for his 3K. He's loved it and he notices a huge difference. And I myself have been trying to chase after him. His car: 1991 3KGT, FIPK and Custom Dual Catback Exhaust. And some Konigs 17 Rims with low-pro's.

When I had the D16 up to par, I had wanted to race him, but never was given the opportunity. My motor blew, and that was that. Fortune gave me a second chance, with a somewhat better motor as well. I knew it would be a matter of time before I had the opportunity to do so. Well, this past Saturday, we found ourselves on a long trip home from Salt Lake after saying goodbye to a few relatives in from out of state. We played cat and mouse through traffic for what seemed to be more than 20 minutes. Traffic was light, but gave us no room to go all out.

Finally, we were half way home and he caught up to my side. With more than a miles worth of clearing up ahead, this was it. I called him up on the Celi, and asked for a 45 to 90 mph run. He looked over, nodded, and then I asked for a 3 Honk countdown. I hung up and we slowed down. At this moment, the engine whined down, and I could feel myself trembling with excitement. Few questions came to mind but were left unanswered and were shut out by my rush of adrenaline. Honk 1 came. Honk 2 and my foot touched the gas pedal. Honk 3 and a quick jerk sent my head back slightly. We were off! The Civ came to life and lunged forward and to my surprise a slight lead was given to me. But 2nd was nearing all too quickly, and I knew 3rd was his shining moment.

Quick jerk on the shifter and this was it. Adrenaline took over my entire body and I could literally feel his exhausts hum along the side of my door. I looked out of the corner of my eye to see he was pulling faster. 80 mph the race was almost over. These last few mph showed no mercy for me as he continued his march forward to destroy me. These few moments seemed to be dragging on for what seemed hours. And then I looked down....it was over. 90 mph and I looked up to see his tail lighten up brightly. 2 car lengths were what seperated me from victory and defeat. He slowed down, looked over, and in that moment, I could see how proud he was of what I had accomplished with my Civ. I gave a light smile, some what disappointed yet in a way, nearly satisfied. It was almost as if I knew it would turn out like this subconciously. I then gave a sign of a good sport. He nodded and smiled.

We continued our way home. Me following behind. I was proud in way. I felt as though I had accomplished much more than I had thought I did. It was a good feeling. And it was good to know that he had much more respect for my car than before. Although, I knew this wasn't done yet. I knew in a few short months I would be the victor. It was only a matter of time. I'll allow him to celebrate his victory. But for now, this is how it is. And I'll just have to accept that.

The moral of the story is, don't buy your dad perfomance parts for his car, especially if you are trying to beat his car . Enjoy!

Losing will only motivate you to make your car faster. I beleive that eventually you will be able to beat him. His car is NA, right?

Yep. I've driven it once too. Pretty quick car. It was months ago that I did though.

Currently I have JDM D15B. Rated at a 130 HP. With that, I have I/H/E. Also camshaft, cam gear, and pulleys. I don't know where I'm at HP wise now. But, in a few months. I plan on going H22 instead of the B16 I had originally wanted. A little persuasion for problemhatch. So, this motor is just to get me around for the time being.

It's pearl white. Very clean car indeed. I'll try and get some pictures whenever I decide to take pictures of my car too. I'm just too lazy though :).

Thanks for the offer Chico . But I'm going the H22 route instead. I plan on staying N/A too for a while. Cause you know, I'm the Crew's #1 stunna! So, boost isn't out of the question, but it's in the future a long ways from now though. Although, low 13's/ high 12's are my goal. But once the H22 goes in, I'll definitely take a stab again at the old man. Not literally...heh.

 yep. That is unless I buy him some performance parts along the way. Which I won't :). Although, he wants to go the VR4 route. He's been getting into them lately, and I don't know what he's going to do either. He could just very well buy a VR4 motor and pop it in there or just buy a VR4 itself. But I don't think in a few months though.

I would say that you should be able to beat that 3000GT with some more motor work. Its not turbo charged so its not all the fast. It sounds to me like he would be buying a VR4 though because if you are buying him performance parts I couldn't imagine him wanting to deal with doing an engine swap. Get that H22 and take him on.

I would personally go B18C1 with boost.;)

But good luck with the car man. It'll def move wiht the H22. Sometimes I wish I had a honda....

CivRacer95

The B18C1 with boost was an idea. Then came the idea of a supercharged b16. But, with some persuasion, I finally decided to go H22. Then with some minor work such as I/H/E with the addition of the camshafts, I'll be in the 13's no prob. I owe the idea to problemhatch (steve) a good friend of Kris. Who he himself has gone the H22 way, and should be running 9's this year. Anyway, that's his story to tell. So, in the end I've found my path and that's what I'm heading for.

didn't you say you beat a GTP a few days ago???

Maybe it was another thread, but no D-series honda could come close to a even a stock GTP.

Good luck with the H22, they can be sick, but they're expensive.

It was actually two weeks ago that I beat the GTP. Wasn't by much that I beat him either. But, it depends on the year of the GTP too. If it was the latest GTP obviously I wouldn't stand a chance. It was actually a mid 90's GTP. My car is pretty far off from stock too. Even if it is a D-series motor being used. I've seen the guy a few times cruising around. I got myself a digital camcorder, so if I ever see him again, I'll get some footage.

Anyway, the H22's a ways away< try saying that 3 times fast :naughty:. But, it should happen by August/September. And really, they aren't that much more expensive than a B16 either. The whole process of swapping it out should cost me around 3000, I hope :).

I thought for sure if you beat the GTP you would pull on your dad too. You never said it was an older GTP, you misslead me on purpose didnt you?

well I have to cheer for the old man but you'll get him eventually #1.

when you gonna go back to the track?

Oh yes, the 3.4 DOHC "X" engine...quite possibly the worst engine GM has ever built went in those mid 90's GTP's.

CivRacer95

Yeah, when I first posted the story about beating the GTP I said it was probably like a 97 or so. But I wasn't too clear. So thus, that's why I stated mid 90's. Everybody has to fuss that I couldn't beat a GTP. I know what I beat. And more than likely, I'll get footage of it sooner or later.

As for going back to the track. I haven't made any plans too go as of yet. I'd like to go and run up against Kris when he comes back from Washington next. Ya know, he's fighting fires and what not. But I'd like to run his SI and get it on footage.

As for racing my dad, I figured it would happen. But, I gave his car a run for his money. 45 to 90 and he won by 2 lenghts. Not that bad for my Civic if I have to say anything about it. I think it's possible for me to take a stock SL though. But, we'll see.
