Rear Sway bar

Hi just wanted to know if the 89 Honda CRX has a rear sway bar? I know for sure that it has a front one. Also, will a rear sway bar mount up to a CRX DX without modification?

if its a si i believe it does have a rear sway, i know for a fact that my 90 has one.

and about it bolting up. I've heard that some have the holes for mounting, but they are not threaded, and I've heard some dont have the holes at all. So sounds like your gonna need to do some work, but shouldnt be hard at all.

Only the si's came with sway bars, More than likely it wont bolt directly on but it wont take much to make it fit like bryan said.

If the car doesnt have a stock rear sway bar then you will need Si lower control arms. The stock rear bar is tiny, I suggest a Suspension Techniques rear bar. It is much thicker and adjustable, will mount without Si control arms. The bar also mounts closer to the wheels, bolts to lower strut bolt.www.jegs.com

yeah, get the ST one or better yet a progress, not only does it not require Si rear control arms, but if the frame doesnt have threaded mounting holes, the kit comes with threaded inserts to put in the holes.

Ok... Let me make sure I have this straight. Since my car is a DX, I'll need some Si lower control arms to be able to mount the rear sway bar. Will I need any additional parts? Will I need to do any other modifications to the car to get this to work?

youll have to drill the crossmember.

hes putting a rear one on there, you dont need to drill anything for a rear one. all chassis have holes for the sway bar mounts, only some of them dont have threaded ones.

my 88 crx dx doesnt have them at all; so im assuming its the same for the 89 dx's.

found some pics on H-T.... here's a setup for a DA rear sway on DX hatch
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/156043oncarrearview-med.jpg

i guess you can use custom brackets(this one is made from the DA mount i think) to mount it differently than other Hondas.

if you look in this pic:

Wow! I like the DA bar. By the way, who is DA and where can I get one of those bars?

DA=old school integra ;) (the newer ones with the "pimple-beam" headlights are the DCs)

That's really interesting! Now out of curiosity, what year Integra should I look for in my local salvage yard for said sway bar?

DA would be 90-93. Might as well get the stuff to do rear disc conversion while your down there.

my 90 STD hatch had holes in that same spot and a CRX Si rear sway bar bolted up to it just like that.

my current 88 STD hatch has holes, but they arent threaded. in the same spot.

Interesting. Looks like a trip to the salvage yard is in order. I just finished with a complete Energy Suspension bushing kit, Tokico struts and springs and installed lower tie bars. I wanted to finish my setup with a rear sway. The above mentioned mods made a hell of a difference already. I expect the rear sway to make a difference as well.

Do you think this kit will work? Is it fairly priced?

when it comes to suspension, stay away from places like jc whitney and no name brands.

Don't listen to them . . . . .That is the same sway bar kit I have, Suspension Techniques. They are not a no name compay, it's actually a VERY LARGE suspension company. Suspension Tech is a division BellTech.

You can see pic's of it in my first post on this thread. The adjustable rear is a nice feature, there is a noticeable difference between the settings. It also mounts closer to the wheels than a stock junk bar, which helps in handling.

a 89 crx dx should have a rear bar though... Mine did and yeah ST is good, But i'd rather get a Progress bar.

I was the one that posted those pics on h-t/put the da rear sway on my 4g,what "holes in the crossmember" are you talking about? The two on that is above the lower control arm bolt?

Kven

the holes im talking about are the ones like on the EGs and EKs; they are vertical(not the small holes right above the bolt; on the actual subframe).

The holes may be there on some, but no U.S. 4g came with a rear sway mounted mounted to them EG/EK/DC style did they?

no, they came with DA style, with hangers mounted to the frame channels.
