Steering wheel controls for fan speed/temp not working

I've searched this and other forums for some info - nothing found. If anyone has an idea I'd appreciate the help.

Problem - 2002 explorer with remote controls on the steering wheel. The fan speed control and temp control works on the dash but not the remote control on the steering wheel. Eddie Bauer - the other steering wheel controls work fine (audio and cruise).

I've checked fuses and the owners manual - no joy.

Thanks in advance.

Hope this helps.

Measure the resistance between the DATC module C228b pin 8, circuit 833 (TN) and ground while pressing each of the steering wheel control switch buttons. Note the resistance and refer to the table below.

FAN UP 736-821 ohms
FAN DOWN 123-138 ohms
TEMP UP 336-375 ohms
TEMP DOWN 1,620-1,810 ohms

Are the resistances within the ranges indicated?

Yes
INSTALL a new DATC module. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new steering wheel control switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

I don't have a shop manual - can you give me any insight to where DATC module C228b pin 8, circuit 833 (TN) are located? If not I'll get a manual - or search the internet. Thanks again, I'll try to take a look this weekend.

The DATC module (Dual Automatic Temperature Control)is the control head for the heater/AC. There is a connector on the back that has a 20 pin connector on it. If you hold the connector with the lock portion up, pin 8 is the third from the left on top row. It should be a tan wire. Good luck.
