My aunt's '89 Camaro A/C compressor is cycling on and off very often (every few seconds). I believe this is because it is low on fluid?

Not fluid, really, low on freon, and being an 89 it uses the very expen$$$$$$ive R12

^ It was converted to r134 shortly after it was bought. :)

could also be a bad pressure switch. when they do the vacume and recovery procedure they will be able to tell if you are low on freon or not, if you have the right ammount of coolant in the system, its probly the low pressure cycling switch mounted on the compressor.

I always thought it was normal for the compressor to cycle on and off.. all the air conditioned vehicles I drive do, anyway??
but speaking of expensive R12.. its illegal to use here.. anyone know where I can get some?
