Nova rocker panel trim?

Work is progressing on my buddy's Nova but before I shoot the body, I have a question for Photoetch guru's... the AMT kit I'm using has fairly thick, detailed rocker panel trim on the body. Should I glue the photoetch trim on top of that, or sand it down smooth and then glue it? The real life trim sticks out a bit, but not that much I think...

I would sand it down to keep a more scale thickness on the instalation.

Cool, I was thinking so as well. To get a chrome/polished look to it, and get rid of that coppery/gold look, I should just polish with actual polish right?
