Used Contour

I have recently been looking at a '98 Contour SVT. The only problem with this car is that the transmission grinds slightly when going into 3rd gear. Does anyone know if this is a common thing, or maybe it is just needing an adjustment? Also any info in regards to the 98 Contour SVT's will be much appreciated. Thanks.

syncros are a common problem in these cars, usually its 2nd and 3rd gear.

Just out of curiosity, can the syncros be re-adjusted. I know this is a stupid question. I just am not real familiar with trany's, can I get just the bad syncro replaced?
