99 dodge caravan

The transmission won't shift out of second gear. Also the service engine light is on

Take the car to a transmission shop or a dealer, the transmission is in limp mode indicating that there is a major internal problem that needs to be repaired. May take a major overhaul or replacement. Sorry for the bad news.

If you have a 4 speed tranny, your problem could also be in the electrical solenoid in the front of the tranny. Its not cheap, but its much cheaper than a complete rebuild. A shop can put a code reader on the tranny and tell you whats wrong. I had mine done and it was only 20 bucks for them to scan it. I still havent replaced my solenoid yet. Good luck!
