turn signal/hazzard switch trouble

1998 blazer LT, 4.3
My wipers started cycling without my permission recently, so i had it looked at and the guy at the dealer said my swich was bad. i found one on e-bay for $50 (opposed to $200 for a dealer one) I put itin today andnow whenever i turn the ignition on, my hazzards automaticly come on and some smoke comes from the switch. are there different switches? because theone i bought also came out of a 98 LT?

Sounds like the ebay switch unit may be bad. Mine fried (literally, smoke came out from the steering column, and when I pulled the switch out it had some nice barbeque marks on it), and the turn signals made a tick tick tick sound constantly, but they wouldn't actually blink. Never had any problems with my hazard lights though.
My replacement switch came from Autozone - somewhere between $140 and $150 I believe. My vehicle is a 99 Bravada - far as I know there aren't any differences in the switches from 98 up.
