Disconnect EGR

I had to disconnect my EGR valve because it kept getting stuck open and making the engine misfire and stumble.

I know the EGR recycles gases inside the engine, and I was wonderng if disconnecting it altogether will hurt my gas mileage.

Any Ideas? thanks..

You can't just unplug it.

Remove it, clean it, and reinstall it with a new EGR gasket.

You don't just unplug vital engine components because they aren't working. That is NOT how a computer engine works.

Hey man, when the thing was runnin crappy my friend hit it with a hammer and it worked for a while. Then it got stuck open again. So he hit it again with the hammer and disconnected it for the time being. The thing runs fine with 188k+ miles so boo ya ka cha.

you are inviting detonation form a lean air fuel mixture. soon your engine will say "boo ya" also.

Hit it with a hammer?

Hey whatever works, right? Anyway, I figured its affected the mileage so I'll have it replaced soon. Thanks again. Happy Memorial Day.

No, that is the stupid way to fix things.

Fix your friend and hit him with a hammer, then never let him work on your engine again.

The EGR valve is electronic so hitting it with a hammer is plain retarded.

But still, it did make a difference because it actually gets stuck open (stays on when its not supposed to) from carbon etc. When it happened a few years ago a Chevrolet technician suggested 'tapping it' if the problem happens again. I see what your saying, though. The whole setup of this engine is just screwy.
