86 trooper II transmission problems

Hi,
My trooper's manual 5 speed tranny quit, I was wondering about possible problems.
when I start it there is a loud clanging noise comming from the tranny, the trooper wont go into first, reverse, or any gear, when I put the clutch down it gets quiet but wont engage the gears when I let ff of it. Different people say that it is different problems.
Also another problem. I dont have a speedometer, the guy before me cut the cable, is it posssible to take the speedometer out and replace it with another isuzu trooper's same year? I love my trooper and dont want to see it go and die, please help


ps. I have another parts trooper same year

Could be the clutch. my brother has an 88 that a new cluctch just tore itself to pieces. If the clutch looks good and the slave is actuating then it is the tranny. The speedo cable will work.
