Replaced the computer in my 95 b'ville with one out of a transport van, runs awesome, but in perform shift mode, it starts out in 3rd gear. O'rielly's said that I need to "flash" the computer. Last time I flashed anything, I got in trouble. Anybody know what they are talking about????

Did you remove the EPROM from the original PCM and install it in the replacement one? As long as the service numbers are the same on the two PCMs and you switch the "chip" you shouldn't need to do anything else.

No, not a new one. The original installed in the replacement PCM will do fine (unless you've already tossed the original). The PCMs are relatively general for the same motors appearing different models within certain model years but the EPROM is specific to your individual car. For instance, I had to replace the PCM in my car so I found one from a 93 Olds LSS with a normally aspirated 3800. I installed my original EPROM from a 93 Bonneville with a SC 3800. Had I left the other one in there, I doubt it would have run correctly if at all.

Original went to the crusher with the van, I didn't think about the eprom until it was too late. What now???

I'm not sure if the EPROM can be reprogrammed for a different vehicle. Hopefully someone else can jump in and verify.
You could try to find an exact duplicate of your car at a junkyard. The same year, make, model, engine, climate control, ect. I'm sure this will not be easy.

If your PCM has a small acess plate on the side than you have a PROM in it. The proms should stay with the car unless you are replacing the Prom for a problem. If you have no acess plate than the PROM has to be "flashed"
"Flashing" a EEPROM is the same thing as downloading a software update to your computer. The only difference the update isn't free or downloaded form the internet. You need a GM computer and software program.
PM me your vin I will try and look up the right Prom for your car. The Prom is car specific, to the engine and trans combo and certain problems each carline has.
