It wasn't till the late 80's, like 1989, that it was changed. And cars started getting speedo's up to 100, 110 or what have you.

Fun tid bit about the Back To the Future DeLorean, in the scene where Marty says "Lets see if you bastards can go 90" and steps on it. They show the cars speedometer race up to 90mph, But the DeLoreans only had 85mph speedos. I know, I've ridden in one several times. Maybe they put in a Eurospec guage cluster?

they make 180mph needles but i like to see the needle fly, and dont want to bother paying money to see my mph needle go up slower.

One night last summer on the highway I had it up to 150 that is my record. Only once have I done that, I was worried that deer would jump out and get disintigrated. I know what you mean about 80s cars only having 85mph spedos. My friend had an 87 GT that looked like a hot wheels car because it was yellow with chrome hurricane looking wheels it had Boss 302 heads and some other shit, but only had an 85 MPH speedo. It would burry the needle before the end of 3rd gear. He always talked about driving by one of those traffic signs that clocks your speed at full speed and seeing what it could do. I told him that I didn't think they had 3 digits to show him.

my moms 93 explorer's speedo only goes to 85. i've taken it past that though.

I've been everybit of my speedometer. Being at the top of 5th gear is strange..you want to shift..but theres nowhere to go. :(

hey! i've hit a curb and spent 2k fixing it, an 8th grader...(he ran in front of me) AND hit a deer last month and that was 3500$ worth...i'm broke and i don't wanna and you can't make me!!!

Mine pegs at 120, limiter is 135. Don't have any pictures of it tho, at those speeds I like to keep both hands on the wheel :grinyes: Could probably hit 160+ without the limiter, not that I would want to tho, 135 is fast enough, if I can't beat 'em by then, then it's not gonna happen LOL

And that's the only thing fast about them. :frown:

Really..so a low 13/high 12 out of an 3.2 NA I6 (when Ford needs a big ol' SCed V8) isn't fast? God, it must suck to own a POS Fix or repair daily, always having to defend the purchase of your car. Everytime you post, it makes me happier that I didn't buy a Mustang when I had the chance.

Anyways, good vid, and Elchico, maybe sometime when I get back up to MO, I'll show you what 155 looks/feels like.

Hey if you don't like Ford than don't like it, but don't give him shit about it. You complain about him defending his car, you are just as bad or else you wouldn't have written this. BMW is a fine car but at the price ford offered that performance, even if it did need to be repaired more frequently it would be more affordable than the outragously priced BMW parts. When it gets down to it, you have to pay 20000 more for BMW performance than FORD performance. So if you are fortunate enough to be able to pay the premium for a 13 sec BMW, than good on you.

Yeah... cool looking, but not all that fast... didn't handle all that great either. But they're cool just of the rareity and novelty of them.

The Max's goes to 160...I won't be seeing that without forced induction aka within the next 3 years.

is this really necessary? mustangs have always been known to be realiable for one, and two, the mustangs v8s are tuned down from factory, they have a tremendous potential for power compaired to your I6... thats the whole idea, that way it doesnt cost nearly as much. i like bimmers personally, but where the hell did that come from. if you just dont like dampy then dont take it out on the rest of the ford owners here. and since your obviously implying ford cant build engines, check out nascar, all of the manufacturers use a ford design, because its the best one available. sure it may be a chevy motor, but they copied a ford design.

meh, i cand badmouth ford now that i own a ford product...id still rather drive a BMW...

120 here.. I want a 140 something that looks stock, don't want a 180+ speedo that just looks rediculous in my personal opinion.

I'm not as dumb no more so I don't think theres any reason for a bigger speedo. I was to ever get caught I'm sure the cop will let me know :D
