speedometer prob

hey guys im usually on the grand am part of this website but i have a ?about my friends del sol. he has a 93 del sol wit a 1.6 vtec in it. well his speedometer isnt working and his tach if revving wierd. wen he takes off the tach jumps from 4000 to 8000 rpms REAL quick and keeps bouncing around wen he's in higher rpms could this be loose wiring or wut does anyone know?

The harness connector on the back of the cluster could be bad/loose. It's easy to take the cluster out of the Del Sol to look though.

Two screws hold the switch bezel on above the cluster. Unscrew those and pull the bezel off. Then you have one bracket screw to take off at the top of the cluster and four around it. Then just pull it out and disconnect the two connectors behind it.
