I have an 1988 camaro with a 2.8 Fi in there right now. I just pulled a 305 out of a monte carlo to put in my car. Will I have a bunch of problems because the new motor is carbeurated ?... like mounting the transmissions, or with the motor mounts, or with what exactly?
Thanks a lot yall

all of the above, plus about a hundred other things. personally i advize against running a carbed engine that was originally fuel injected, especially if you have to pass the sniffer test. also if you have emissions testing good luck passing with a V8 if the car was originally a sixer.
Some of the things youll have to change are the transmission, motor mounts, radiator, fuel lines, cooling hoses, ignition system (without the computer controls an aftermarket unit is manditory), exhaust system, and depending on who you talk to, a few other large items. Add on top of that about a thousand odds and ends that will drive ya nuts. Its an expencive undertaking. Ive heard anywhere from 5-10,000 dollars. best to just go out and buy a V8 equipped model if thats what you want.

well i already got a new transmission, radiator, motor mounts, i can get fuel line easy.. i only need rubber line. but the only thing that worries me is the distributor. the one on befiore was run by the computer in the monte, so now i gotta change it to where the distributor isnt run by the computer, and i thing I might have an idea on that Anyways, thanks foir the help.

your probably going to want to get a distributor that has a vacuum advance, it uses vacuum rather than a signal sent by the computer to advance/retard timing.

hmmm. well do you think i could just use the distributor thats on there now and just hook up the hot and ground wires and see if that works? I heard i would have to get a distributor like that but i wasnt/still aint sure about it. Hopefully i can find a distributor like that on ebay.

to my knowledge, using a distributor off a computer controlled car would require an aftermarket ignition system (ex. accel or msd)

oh well i guess im gonna go with the vaccum advance distributor then. My bud has one and its gonna be free.
Hey, are 5.0 camaros really that fast? Ive never driven anything more than just a 2.8 of my own car and someone told me that if im not careful, i could kill myself cuz it would be so much power that id probably have too much of it. dam i cant wait.
thanks a lot yall

well, the 5.0 camaro isnt like the 5.0 mustang. The 305 camaro will be a kick in the pants compared to your 2.8L but its not exactly a race car. I certainly would advize against doing any money runs.

well im not gonna race anybody for money. If i had maybe a 350 or something biger i might, but with just a regular 305 w/a stock cam, im not gonna chance it. i wonder what the 0-60 time is on 305s.
thanks

hmm well, im gettin a 600 cfm carb from edelbrock and ive already gotten headers and im gonna run them strait back all the way out. But i still wonmder how much acceleration im gonna have. I guess ill find out when i finally put the engine in it here in about 3 weeks. Also, i just bought a brand new gear drive, does that add any horse power whatsoever ? Thanks for all the tips yall.
