I'm having a hard time getting my 2001 Jetta out of park. It is an automatic. When it does happen, the steering wheel is not locked and everything is normal. Anyone have any suggestions?

I noticed that when it does work, I am able to press the brake paddle and have the parking light come off and the transmission engage. When I am unable to get it to shift to reverse, I press and press on the brake paddle and nothing happens. Finally, I hear a click, the light comes off and then I can shift. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Next ime it won't come out of park have someone look to see if your brake lights are working. If not then the brake light switch is bad. If they work then the solenoid pin at the shifter is out of adjustment or sticking.
