I wanna get rid of the whole a/c system in my car. 87 305 tpi, not serpentine belt set-up. So how would i go about doing it? Where would i start? Can i do it with the motor still i the car? I might aswell get rid of it since i don't use it at all.

V belt setup is simple to deleat...kinda. Remove the pump and belt for it, remove the condensor, remove evap cannister & lines. Now comes the hard part. Remove the air box and evaporator, remove all of the vacuum lines associated with AC (including the heater control valve in the eng comp) remove the heater controls.... now to find a non AC air box, controls etc, and install them.

Never heard of someone wanting too take off the AC, but if you don't use it...why not.

I took mine off recently, it was just as morley said. I found my non-a/c heater box on ebay.

Morley, isn't the heater control valve in the engine compartment needed for the heat to still work?

Not much into performance?? Not trying to be an asshole but most anyone that is into cars knows someone that has pulled their A/C. Or at least has heard of it. Surprised you hadn't.

I have heard of pulling the A/C saving over 50-60 pounds. Plus, since it is off the front of the car, it helps weight transfer on launch as well.

No, the valve was put in so no hot water went to the heater core during A/C operation. You will have to re-route the heater hoses to do away with the valve. Those valves are a POS anyway, made of plastic and always leaking.

can you elaborate more on the re-routing, or perhaps a diagram or drawing would work, I'm in the middle of this part. Still hafta get the new heater core in too but i'm gonna save that for later on.

Do the heater core now, those are the hoses you need to work with.
I'll see about doing a diagram tomorrow (Sat)

kthx, I got the old core out, just haven't gotten around to putting the new one in. I tried doing it using an easy method I found on TGO but ended up not working out, so I hafta go thru the haynes method of pulling the entire dash back from the firewall, but my interior is already cluttered and disassembled I don't want to add to the disaster cuz i'm afraid I won't remember how to get it back together right. I can just let the heater hoses that go into the core just hang there labeled until I get the core in tho. so..yea...I just lost track of what I was talking about...

pulling a/c saves weight and frees up some horsepower from one less belt, not to much though

People keep talking about pulling their dash to do this...I just don't see it. I've had the heater core out of my 85 IROC several times, never pulled the dash apart or loose. I've also changed the core in my 91 Formula, that was even easier.
What exactly was not working when trying to put the core in?

Thanks Morley, gonna get that stuff to go along with the removing. Also, i wouldn't have to get and A/C delete pulleys, would I? Now, all i would need is a non a/c box and controls, is the anything i would need to get, gonna try taking it off this weekend if possible, been raining for about a month here in boston.

Also, say for some strange reason i can't get the no a'c air box or the control to along with. What can i do then? Can i still take everything else off, leave the existing air box and controls. It's my daily driver and i wanna know if it will mess anything up.

Also, did any of the v6 3rd gen come with an a/c delete option? If i can't find any f-bodies with it, would i be able to find another GM with it that would fit on the camaro?
