well, i talked to my brothers friend about installing my engine for me.... turns out his dad owns a honda repair shop locally, so we'd do it there....i was under the impression (by my brother) that i'd be basically him hookin a friend up...we could toss the engine in over a week period, i'd give him a couple hundered bucks (beer money) and be done with it...its something hes done for years now, and knows what he's doin....so my brother asks him about it, and i called him, turns out basically he'd be doing it at his dads shop, as an employee....i wouldnt be able to be involved in it (insurence) and it'd cost me 800 bucks to do it (everything, including whatever welding/wiring, etc.) but im like "argh!" i wasnt planning on spending 1800 bucks to install a d16y8....so now im wondering if its worth it....im faced with the decision of basically getting it and doing the swap, but having to wait a month to have it dropped in, save the money towards a b16/18, or i could get some coilovers, wheels, stuff like that....then save up for an engine to be put in down the road....i think with a new clutch, my car would be a little more responsive....atleast tolerable for the time being..im thinking some adjustable springs (groundcontrols, or skunk2..) and maybe some new shocks (whats a good/cost effective (big word for cheap) brand?) and some wheels, tint the windows...interior.. stuff like that.
suggestions? :/

I say screw it until you can get a better deal later. That's way too much.

What a dilema. I feel for you, man.
If you're gonna race, go for the engine swap.
If you're gonna cruise, then go for the stylin' ideas.
I hate to tell you this, since you hate makin' decisions, but ultimately, it's up to you.
I just started on my Prizm, and since there is no easy way to give it more GO, (it is a Prizm after all) I got the tint first, and I ordered a set of 7 spoke 17inch white ADR wheels and 215/40R17 Kumtto tires.
At least it will look good. And if anybody wants to race me, I'll just tell them that I only race at the drag strip. Hopefully they'll buy that.(';)')
Good luck with your project.

yeah....i guess its pretty unanimous.. which makes it better for me to decide ;)
(not that i dont know what to do with my car, but the help lies in that basically everyone is saying 1800 to complete that swap is a bad price, and the money would be better spent on other things)
im thinkin right now, window tint (needed) lowering (what would be a good, but cheapish setup for that? im thinking GC or skunk2 coilover "sleeves" and like, some decent shocks.. and hopefully wheels can come into play also..if i can get a good price on some wheels...kinda would like an alarm also..but focus right now is on wheels/suspension, so thats what imma go with.
whats a good setup, and price range for some GC/Skunk2 coilovers, and good shocks? ive seen koni yellow's mentioned...and tokico....
i think what i might do, is wait to see what kinda price i can get from him about the engine, see if i can get his whole setup for a decent price (he's got some expensive aftermarket stuff on the engine..also a catback exaust and headers and aN aem CAI..if he gives me a good price on that stuff, ill go for it..
ill have to get an obd1 to obd2 converter also...which will prolly cost 700 bucks w/ my luck.

IMO whatever you plan to do, save some money and invest on some security. Having a nice whip means nothing if someone else drives it away.

I agree withy Dome.......I would invest in a good alarm system. Also do you have a sound system? Lowering the car is a good start too.

yeah... like sparq said....i can honestly say ive never ever ever in my 21 years of living in this town, have ever heard of a car jacking/theft....and the only instance of vandalism ive heard of was someones ricerocket (kid w/ a 'teg typeR, or a b18c powered hatchback, i dont really remember) got smashed up w/ a baseball bat....but that was while i was back in NC..and i think that was a personal grudge the vandal had w/ him. hell, worse has happened to me in a rich bastard city of NC that i lived in, than in my lower/average-average city i live in in NY (that sparq speaks of) not excluding it as a good idea (the alarm) but......i dont know how much im interested in spending on one. i'd like one w/ the LCD pager...cause its gadgety..and i like gadgets... hehe

Thats the one I was looking into....It has a remote start for clutches as well. It has an lcd display and its also a pager alarm too. You live upstate?

Exactly my point man... gadety stuff costs loot -- why spend $250 on an alarm w/ a pager? I mean if you just want a little pager thing I can get you one :finger:

If you got the money to satisfy yourself, go for it.
Although I agree that no security system will prevent anyone with enough know how in car jackin', at least it helps with the amateurs or the easily spooked. And that means less people who can jack your ride.

ok, another monkey wrench gets thrown in the mix. i find out today, im getting 742 back from federal (taxes) and 500+ from NC state....so...thats putting me *this much* closer to a B16 or something..............ugh! i really wanna lower my car tho...and get some wheels....UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can anyone throw some prices my way....?
like, a suspension setup (coilovers, shocks, camber kit)
and the total cost for a b16 swap (i know people sell "complete swaps" but im sure there's gotta be other things that arent included, that are gonna be needed...
man, someone's GOTTA know how to spend my money! :-D

seriously though....i think your car is in real need of some new tires and wheels. I say go with the Rotas for your car (the spoon ones). And lower it down. I'd save for the swap.....but whatever the case is its you car....do what you think is best.
