X-Box. For one reason: Halo(s)
Now I really like the PS2 because of the GTA(s) though. Sigh... It's the games. That's it for me. I like hte X-Box because it's got the capability for great graphics as well, though. I didn't seem to see that much in PS2. And I'm DEFINATELY not a console warrior. If i hadn't gotten an x-box for free, I'd have never bought one. Same with my last console, the 64. But if it came down to a PS2 or an x-b-x, I'd definately choose X.
Can a mod please make this a poll. If we're going to have this discussion, we may as well at least have a poll...

X-Box is better,
Ps2 doesn't compare in graphics,
I agree Halo is X-Box's contribution to the gaming world, it revolutionized 1st person shooters,
And the reason Microsoft made the console instead of sticking to PC is because you can't have 3 friends come over and play your computer on the TV, a 2 on 2 game being able to talk to your team-mate is great, and I've played Pc with hands free cell phone comunication, its not as good not being able to see everybody's screen, (hes in the dark side cave/light side ridge )

actually though I do like the gamecube better than the ps2, its more original. and they have all the games I grew up on. as far as powerful consoles I'd go with the xbox but then you would miss out on the gran turismo and GTA series games which are some of my favs soooo I guess in a perfect world i'd have all three... or none I suppose so I didn't even have to worry about whether mine was as good as yours...

xbox has the GTA game series
And I choose xbox. ps2 has lame games with even lamer graphics. Xbox has better games, better online experience (xbox live), and better graphics. I don't care how many games ps2 has, most of em r crap and I wouldn't want to spend $50 on any of em.

When it comes down to them all it's well known the Gamecube has the best graphics and stuff. The thing is their games suck harder than a $2 whore on 50 cent night.
As for the PS2 having the better games you must be sniffing something. The only games the PS2 has going for them are RP games like Finale Fantasy.
The X-Box has the best games and all the good games that the PS2 has.

hate all x-boxes?
aren't there better things to hate?
i mean, it isn't even the machines that you like/dislike; it's the games.
you can have the best machine technically but with bad support and bad games, it don't mean shit.
how many games the machine has also doesn't make a difference.
heck, the ps2 has how many games?
i only buy the ones i like and the ones i like are the only ones that matter to me.

XBox vs. PS2 is so 3 years ago, it's now XBox 360 vs PS3, get with the program you technologically challenged old fogies :p
In all seriousness, I like the PS2 better, I have an XBox as well, only so I can play Forza, TOCA Pro Rac Driver 2 (Which later came out on PS2 with Catalunya added to it :banghead: ) and the Halo series.
I like the PS2 controller the best and if I couldn't afford them both, would definitely have the PS2 over the XBox, I prefer the Sony-exclusive games to the MS-exclusive games, graphics is not a huge priority for me, at all.

I bought a PS2 thinking it was the best thing evar, but then a couple days later my little brother came home with an Xbox and I was envious after playing a couple games. Even with the original Xbox controller I prefered the Xbox one, I have larger hands and the PS2 one feels tiny. The only reason I still have it is for GTA series (so I can play it as soon as it comes out) and for Gran Turismo...but since Forza came out I should I don't have any reason to have the thing anymore. Plus the Xbox comes with a hard drive and the Xbox Live is awesome with Halo2.

In a way they are all great. There are other games out for Xbox besides Halo. Yeah its a great game but when we system link, thats the only freakin game we play. On PS2, TimeSplitters 2 is still a great FPS. Also Red Faction.(great use of Geo-Mod) I just love the hard drive on Xbox. No $$$ spent on memory cards. Resident Evil 4 was an awesome GameCube game and I plan on buying that soon. But all the systems have games with great graphics. Its only a few Xbox games that really push the detail. Yes, you can get your GTA series on Xbox. The only thing that I found different was load times. Which for SanAndreas they could be shorter. But graphics arent everything. I play the older games and find nothing wrong. Even old ones like Age of Empires 2 on PC are still great. Even though everything is just a picture. Its mostly just a persons favorite company. What good games are released on which system is usually why people are drawn towards a certain one. I have to say when Xbox was released I didnt think I would ever get it because there wasnt a big selection of good games for it in the first few months. I stuck with the PS2 the whole time until I got to play Halo. Then I decided to get one and now I have over 30 games for it.

Ok, let's break it down entirely:
Console wise the XBOX has a hard drive... so much you can do with it. Never use a memory card, save music, etc. etc.
PS2 - no hard drive unless you buy FFXI and even then it's only for FFXI... ok that sucks but during its release NO system had a hard drive like the XBOX's
DVD- XBOX has the better player but you have to buy a 35 dollar kit for it whereas the PS2 (though not as good) can be used with the controller
Games- This is rough, everyone has their own opinions. The best way to break it down is that Sony relies entirely on 3 party companies for their best selling games (from Sqare to Rockstar... Sony plays almost no part in the production of their games) but Microsoft plays a large role in the making of its better games (like Project Gotham and the Halos). With Bill Gates down your neck, the games will run smoother, faster, and a lil better looking.
I rule Nintendo out because I don't think they'll be around much longer. Thier grip on the handheld systems is loosening with the release of the PSP and I'm sure Microsoft has something up their sleeves and the Gamecube is virtually unplayed. The minidiscs are expensive to make and since they're read backwards in the console damn near impossible to copy so many people overlook the GCube. Sorry Nintendo fans, trust me I feel your pain.
Hope I didn't leave anything out.

Ok, let's break it down entirely:
Ok
Console wise the XBOX has a hard drive... so much you can do with it. Never use a memory card, save music, etc. etc.
The bad thing is a virus could get in there and delete everything you've saved. It has happened to some people on Live Wire but I hear they're cracking down on it.
PS2 -
As I said the PS2 and the X-Box are pretty much the same. The X-Box is strong and has all the great games the PS2 has. As I said though the games PS2 has that X-Box doesn't are RP games. Most people I know got a PS2 so they could play RP games like Finale Fantasy.
DVD-
At first I thought it was useless but I think I use the DVD on my X-Box more than playing games.
Games-I pretty much said it up above with the PS2.
I'll probably give somebody a heart attack but I don't think Halo is that good of a game just to get an X-Box. I've never seen why it's so hyped up and don't find it any different than most first person shooters. I personally believe Return to Castle Wolfenstein is much better, but that's me. The link parties are cool but as stated above it's all everybody plays is Halo. X-Box though has games going for them that other systems can't have. I'm a big fan of Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 so I find that a good reason to get an X-Box.
This is why Gamecube is said to suck. The Gamecube is probably the best built and most powerful system. The only advantage the X-Box has is it has more to work with since it doesn't have mini-disk. If you look though at the game selection, about 60-70% of all gamecube games are aimed at kids or very young teenagers. There aren't the graphic blood and guts games that I want.
I rule Nintendo out because I don't think they'll be around much longer.
Nintendo will never die. I think they learned their lesson with the Gamecube and their next system will shock the world in a way the SNES and N64 did.
Hope I didn't leave anything out.
Nope.

Ok
The bad thing is a virus could get in there and delete everything you've saved. It has happened to some people on Live Wire but I hear they're cracking down on it.
Very rare occurance, they've already stopped this security hole and this was really only an experiment between hackers. There was never a harmful virus passed on xbox live yet. Me and my friends have never ever had problems like this with xbox live yet. Also, PS2 can suffer the same thing b/c a virus can be saved on the memory card. Not to mention, ps2's network is much less regulated than xbox live. Once an exploit is found, you can't do anything to update the infrastructure in ps2.
As I said the PS2 and the X-Box are pretty much the same. The X-Box is strong and has all the great games the PS2 has. As I said though the games PS2 has that X-Box doesn't are RP games. Most people I know got a PS2 so they could play RP games like Finale Fantasy.
they aren't the same. ps2 textures suck compared to xbox's. This is b/c of only 4 mbs of video memory, compared to xbox's 64 mbs of shared Ram. If you played some top notch xbox games, you would see (Halo 2, jade empire, ninja gaiden). Xbox also has shaders that make the environments so much more realistic that ps2 can only dream of. As far as RP games, xbox has some good RP games. Fable, Star wars: KOTOR (Game of the year when it came out), and jade empire are some of the best RPGs around. It does not have japanese RPGs though, but xbox definetly has some top notch RPG games.
Also if you see the GTA games, xbox has a much cleaner look, a much better draw distance (you can see much farther), plus things don't appear right in front of you. This is because xbox has more memory and can hold more objects. In GTA:SA, xbox is going to have around twice the polygon count as well. If you also compare the splinter cell series. xbox's version is way cleaner, sharper, and has more stuff that ps2 can't handle.
I'll probably give somebody a heart attack but I don't think Halo is that good of a game just to get an X-Box. I've never seen why it's so hyped up and don't find it any different than most first person shooters. I personally believe Return to Castle Wolfenstein is much better, but that's me. I actually agree with this. I think Halo is kind of overrated. It's fun, but it doesn't really deviate from other first person shooters and shouldn't be given the status that it has. Fun multiplayer, but single player is just like any other single player. Great graphics, but nothing really innovative.
There aren't the graphic blood and guts games that I want.
nope, GC isn't the most powerful system. Xbox has a slightly faster processor, as well as a more powerful graphics card, and more memory. GC has some nice looking games b/c of their developers know how to take full advantage of the GC hardware.
Nintendo will never die. I think they learned their lesson with the Gamecube and their next system will shock the world in a way the SNES and N64 did.
I think Nintendo is dead. They are limiting themself to a small market which is dieing out (the younger age). That's the least profitable market which is what they are targeting. As a result of this, all the developers and publishers are not producing games for them anymore. I think nintendo will keep a hold on the handheld market, but the console wars are going to be between ps3 and xbox 360.
The bad thing is a virus could get in there and delete everything you've saved. It has happened to some people on Live Wire but I hear they're cracking down on it.

The link parties are cool but as stated above it's all everybody plays is Halo. X-Box though has games going for them that other systems can't have. I'm a big fan of Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 so I find that a good reason to get an X-Box.
I actually agree with this. I think Halo is kind of overrated. It's fun, but it doesn't really deviate from other first person shooters and shouldn't be given the status that it has. Fun multiplayer, but single player is just like any other single player. Great graphics, but nothing really innovative.
There aren't the graphic blood and guts games that I want.
nope, GC isn't the most powerful system.

Our parents thought that about Atari and the other predecessors to the consoles... everything has a time. Video games have grown and evolved with my generation (or so I'd like to say) and as we got older the level of mature rated games increased and became more graphic. Nintendo has refused to evolve in that matter, though this is honorable, honor doesn't pay the bills.
Honestly I don't see them having the money to rock the world with a new system.

wow you guys are uber nerds.
This is like arguing what's better, pizza hut or dominos, fuck, they're both good, both bad for you, and will leave you impotent, same with the game world.
Build a bridge.

Thats one thing Nintendo has plenty of, being on top of the video game world for the last 20 years. And pretty much having a monopoly over the handheld market.
But they really need to come out with something revolutionary to compete now, i guess thats why their new system is gunna be called the Revolution lol
But honestly i kinda want Nintendo's time to be done... i was a Sega fanboy
Sega was the best video game company ever... they always came to the market with all the revolutions, and were always a step ahead of the game. They were always the first video game company to do things, like use CDs, use the internet for online play, etc. Now those are standards. Too bad their marketing sucked...

Im a bit late coming to this but..
I agree Halo is X-Box's contribution to the gaming world, it revolutionized 1st person shooters
That is the most uninformed statement I've ever heard.
If you want to talk revolutionary.. look at Counterstrike and Quake.
Halo is a subpar FPS.
And pretty much having a monopoly over the handheld market.
-used- to have a monopoly on the handheld market. The PSP just destroyed every living breath the DS had imho. Nintendo still has the support of what remains of old school squaresoft though...

Well I stopped choosing/debating which console is better because they both have their ups and downs, obviously the best hand that a person who chooses Xbox will just go and say "It has better graphics" well graphics arent much when the game blows, I really dont like alot of the titles on Xbox. Ps2 though, there's alot of great games out there even though lately many of them have been lame..but what can you do? It happens over there in Microsoft's table too. The old console war is over. It's time for another one. :)

Not saying they don't have support, but Sony really has most of the rights and deal with Square Cnix or whatever they are...

Nintendo has no money, they have been turning over losses for years.
Even when the Gameboy had the monopoly of the market, sales started falling after the Pokemon fad died out, while the Gamecube and N64 made sure that Nintendo lost anything they made on the NES and SNES.

The only thing I always thought gamecube had going for them is the RE series and I know everyone agrees.

Yeah, those graphics were killer. I had a gamecube and resident evil. The gamecube just didn't released good enough titles quick enough.

Sega went into liquidation as well if I remember, after Dreamcast sank low. Sad...I liked the DreamCast...

What are you talking about, the N64 was a success. They made alot of money on it, it was one of the 2 most popular consoles of its generation. Gamecube and VirtualBoy are what sucked
And i HAD my Dreamcast until a couple of months ago, with about 60 burned games. till my house got broken into and somebody stole it. They left my Genesis tho :D

SquareEnix is an abomination.
They were both good companies seperate, but their joint efforts churn out some bad games.

I wouldnt be surprised if like 10 years down the road they come out with an amazing system and blow everybody away, nobody would expect it. If they got some financing it would be possible.
But thats prolly just a Sega fans dream :D
