just get some carbon fiber over lay and stick it on your hood. Or vinyl carbon fiber sticker. Save you $$$

ViS Racing has been making a CF hatch for the 2g for a while now.

Fyi, the hatches on our cars weigh less than the glass that's in them. You'll be doing more for weight loss by swapping out the glass than by buying a CF hatch. It would also be cheaper.

Yeah. You only gain 1/10th of second for every hundred pounds.

Maybe so, but a carbon fiber hatch on a 2g looks badass.

I have to say this would look pretty nice on a Talon with a cf hood. The whole top half of the car would be black--pretty clean.

For the average do it yourselfer, bending up a piece of lexan for the oddly shaped rear window can be a pain in the ass. I didnt look at the link above, but every CF or FG hatch I've seen allows for a simple square piece of lexan, which is an advantage. I seem to remember one vendor selling FG hatches for ~250 bucks IIRC. For a race car, well worth it just to make fabrication simpler. But alas, I have no personal experience with such things...

Making the plexi hatch yourself is hardcore. Cutting the stuff flat is hard enough. A few companies make premolded lexan for the rear hatches for a little cheaper than the price of the hatch, though. They also make speedglass, for about the same price. Speedglass is heavier than plexi, but less prone to getting scratched and shattering. There are deals if you want a full plexi car. Alternative glass isn't legal. Usually people tint it so that the cops won't notice.
Advantages: light, UV resistant, some stuff is scratch resistant, some stuff is made to perform well in a wreck.
Disadvantages: not street legal, difficult as a home job, poor quality stuff will have optical distortion.
If you're interested in saving weight, swapping out old glass is good. If you want to look like you're interested in saving weight, swapping out the hatch itself is good. Food for thought, the stock glass for the rear hatch weighs forty-five pounds.

As a final note, whether it's the hatch or its glass, remember that it's better to take weight off the front of the car when you can. Our weight distribution is already off, it would be better to move it in the right direction.
