please help!

hey guys...im a noob w/ a question. my rex shoots this black shit out of the exhaust. my cousin said it's blow-by or somthin and smells like unburnt gas. i've been told that it's just that my timing is off cuz it runs bad and sputters and stuff. but i've also been told that my engine is shot and i should get a new one. what do y'all think?

well, first, Welcome Mr. noob with a question... second, how many mile on your engine, and what mods have been done?

atleast for the engine, it depends what you have now ... what you have available ... how much your willing to spend ... and many other factors. If could be a 15 dollar gasket and a few hours changing it to fix depending on whats really wrong.

Are you sure it smells like unburnt gas? Have you taken it to a mechanic for an inspection? If you havnt, take it to a mechanic you can trust to simply inspect and maybe get you a qoute for what work might be needed. Ask specificly for qoutes on parts with the part number so you know what you might have to buy later.

ok cool...well i took it to a mechanic and when i mentioned blowby he said the engine is shot...and i dont exactly know how many miles the engine has cuz it's a zc ya know

ok do a leakdown check and see if the compression is ok, then do a tune up. and get your injectors cleaned.

ur car is running lean...atleast that's what i was told when black stuff was coming out of my exhaust...i had advanced my timing too much and that caused the problem...turned it back and it stopped....

close but bassakwards... if its blowing black smoke its rich. what ecu are you running? Double check your timing, and giver her a good tune up, plugs, wires, cap, ect...

whats your gas milage like?
