Leaking trunk

I have discovered a design flaw that allows water to enter the right side of the trunk of Cavaliers and Sunfires. On the right side of the trunk, behind the carpet there is a Air Pressure Relief Valve. This valve has two small rubber flaps that flip out when the trunk lid or a door is closed. The valve is sensitive enough it will open by blowing on it.

From the outside, this valve is located directly behind the rear right wheel. The turbulence created when driving is enough to open this valve allowing water and road grime into the trunk of the car.

Evidence of this can be found by lifting the carpet in the trunk after driving in the rain at highway speeds. You will see a collection of silt, water and other road grime.

Concerns, other that rust. If water and road grime can enter than so can carbon monoxide.

Here is a link I have founnd with more details on this

i'm not sure how to fix this once when it gets to this point.

My car is a 2004 sunfire. I am trying to get this fixed upder the warranty The dealer is left scratching their heads because there is no fix from GM. They replaced the valve with a new one. this obviously did not work. Of course mine is the ONLY one they have seen. They refuse to admit it is a design flaw across many millions of cars

While they were working on my car they gave me a rental 2005 sunfire. I flipped up the carpet to check this one, it has been leaking just as bad as mine.

The good news is it hasn't leaked since it stopped raining

You, my friend, are screwed. Besides, if you think "all rusted out" fits your situation, check out mine.

Now THAT'S how you say "rusted out." Oh yeah, funny thing about that car, too. It would've cost me around $5000 to have a shop fix it. So, I sold it to a guy from the Gateway J-Bodies. He had the damned thing back up and running in 2 days. Granted, those two days were extremely long days for him involving LOTS of sheet metal and welding and sealing and blah blah blah. But, my old Z still lives....just with a slightly leaky rear main seal.

See...when I use the term *RIP* in my sig...I mean the car died, and I don't kid around ;)

Ah...I get nostalgic just thinking about my old car.
But now I got the new hotness (not really "new," but it's new to me.) Check it, yo?
