clanking/taping(metal on metal) noise...

I have this, clanking (guess you could describe it like that) noise coming from the front of my car, if i put it into reverse and hold hte break it makes the noise really fast (also does this sometimes when the car changes idle, ie when i turn the AC on), if the car is in drive and i tap the gas it's a quick tap, like metal on metal. Seems like it's getting worse, I've checked exhaust clearance, nothing is hitting.

is it coming from the motor ? or is it external someplace ?

I don;t think it's coming from the motor, sounds like its coming from underneath the motor/car..

I don't think it's the valves, the valves are making a ticking noise though...need to adjust them but have to wait for dad to get back from russia lol

No heatshield over header...checked others, not hitting any where...im stumped..

Would it make the noise all the time if it was a rod? Cause, it doesn't do it all the time..
