just got my car smogged today, figured it would fail b/c of old catalytic converter.... anyways i have 7 days to come in for a free re-test. and they have the following violations:
Disconnected----EGR visual
Disconnected----Fuel Evaporative Controls
The EGR problem i believe is b/c i am missing the tube that connects from the cat to the terminal where smog pump pumps. I plan on getting a new catalytic converter and new tube within the next few days.
BUT
can someone help me with the Fuel Evaporative Controls? they said I'm missing a vacuum line somewhere but i dont know which. I know the fuel evap canister is at the front/drivers side under hood, but where does vac line come from and does it connect to the top port?
if someone could take a pic of their fuel evap canister and email me or post it, it would be greatly appreaciated.

thank you all very much,
ps
CA smog laws are crazy

Sucks for you that you live in Cali, does anyone know why the hell they have such a high emissions thing over there?

Ever try to breathe in downtown L.A. on a HOT summer day with no breeze?

One of the vac lines goes from the charcole canister to a tee connecting to the bottom of the throttle body, sorry I can't remember where the others run.
wrightz28 is right though, substantial pollution problems are the reason that CA has such stringent emissions standards. On the plus side, pollution levels have been reduced significantly since these laws were introduced.

The large one goes under the throttle body and around to a port on the RH side of it.

The EGR has nothing to do with the pipe that goes to the cat. Check the valve for a vacuum line going from it to the EGR solenoid and another from the solenoid up under the plenum to that same T fitting mentioned in ct91's post, under the throttle body. These are hard plastic lines with rubber connectors on them.

i assume you guys are talking about the TPI motor , which mine is.
currently i have no vac lines going to the EGR valve, located under the plenum right? While re-assembling my engine i probably lost track of which goes there.
there also is no vac lines coming off of the charcoal canister either :frown: see pic bellow
I took a picture of what i am talking about, finger pointing to empty slot,is a vac line supposed to go where finger is pointing?

Your fuel evap system is different from mine (85)...mine has a few more connections on it.
