The easiest way to remove the drum is to remove it with the hub-brake drum assembly, and then you can use a hammer to separate the hub from the drum. This way you can also repack your rear wheel bearings. If you only want to remove the drum, then you have to hit it with a hammer to free the drum from the hub. Some times it also helps to back off the automatic adjuster screw from the rear of the brake backing plate.

If the drum is difficult to remove, remove the plug from the rear brake support plate. Push the self adjuster lever away from the star wheel using a thin screwdriver. The lever and star wheel are accessed through the hole on the rear brake support plate. Rotate the star wheel using a brake adjusting tool to retract the shoes.
i wouldn't hit it with a hammer. you can damage the drum especially if it's warm or hot when you do it
