When replacing rear leaf springs with replacement metal springs are the original u-bolts useable or do longer ones need to be used? Any thing else I should watch out for when doing this replacement.

rear leaf springs? well i can't say they are easy to replace as mine use to be Fiber glass and finally got them replaced by a heavy duty steel leaf Springs that can hold about 2500 lbs "both side incl." as i need those for my kind of work and you do have to change your U bolts as a longer one is required. now one thing that i had to face was the darn rubber piece as a damper so that you don't feel the vibration of the diff on the springs. i had to re-use them and they work just fine and still doing fine after 125,000 km.
I don't know where you are located, but i bought my Kit At Shaffer's in Canada for about $650.00 and another 450 for the shocks "all 4 of them monroes" i did over 125,000 KM already, so my shock are over due and will try to get better ones and replace my Coil springs in the front as it has over 250,000 km on those for sure.
Do you guys know of any good brands for heavy duty shocks? use for delivery and heavy cargo? Any good brands name will be good as mine are wayyyyyyyyyyy over due. i use to like monroes but they feel good for a while and then, downhill after 10,000 km
Anyway, hope that answered your question. Leaf springs = a yes for longer u bolts and good luck.
