Well its time for my cats to be cut off. Theyre stopped up and smell horrible!! Plus, I've heard they can cause bad mileage, and pinging if theyre clogged.
Just wanted someone's opinion. When I cut them, do I leave the flowmaster on there, replace it with a quieter muffler, or just say "FK it" and let it ride. The FM's got a hole in it already, so its next to go...wat to do?
I wonder wat a stock muffler sounds like w/o cats. I'm looking for a kind of sleeper sound...barely noticeable until you're killing it!!

i would say a good sleeper muffler would be the gibsons.... i have one on mine (single in, dual out) its pretty quiet at idle but then it roars when you get on it. i feel they are very good performance wise as well. flowmasters have a too many chambers... you can see straight through my gibson muffler.

Aren't dynomax mufflers straight though also? Whatever it is will be louder than it is now i'm sure since I'm ditching the cats as soon as I can scrounge up the $$$

jeverrett, i cut off my cats on most all my vehicles and left the flowmaster on. the sound is awesome. almost sounds like a mustang at low speed, and is noticeablely louder when i get on it. if the sleeper sound is what you are looking for, this route may not be for you. flowmaster makes a 'bigblock' series muffler that isnt supposed to effect the sound, but im not sure how it would do without the cat. i personally love the sound of my truck.

won't cutting your cats mess up your emissions tests?

yeah im thinkin it would fail an emissions test without them. of course, im sure theres someone who can get him a sticker. in jersey thats how its gotta be done. my '76 c10 puts out right around 3 times the legal hydrocarbon limit for new jersey. u shoulda seen their faces when they saw the test results lol. in va where i used to live they didnt even test the emissions. hahahaha-just thinkin of some of the cars i actually got thru inspection. u also need o2 simulators for the computer or id say it wont run right. ask nelson haha. he knows more than us.
