Check out the weights recommended in your owners manual. Royal Purple is a great brand, so you can't go wrong with it.

I think your tranny requires 75w-90 GL4 gear oil. You could check out www.3si.org/forums and if you do some searching, you may be able to see which is recommended. Over here I'm not familiar with many people running royal purple...but I could be wrong.

This is for AWD vr4s, but it may help in some way or another:

been using royal purple for a while...its really good. nothing can keep your engine and transmission in better shape...i think the manual calls for 75-90 GL4 and royal purple will work with either GL4,GL5.
hey, what happens is you put GL5 in our transmission..(F5M55) or something like that

If I recall correctly, it's not good. I think I read somewhere that GL5 has additives that are harsh/corrosive to some metal (brass or bronze...it started with a B?) anyway, it isn't good. Stick to what is recommended.

Musashi, there's 2 nuts that you have to unscrew--make sure you unscrew the filler plug first. Here's a link with the picture:

I used BG Synchroshift II for my tranny oil change and so far, the shifting has been so nice. I haven't had any 2nd gear grinds thus far. :)

By the way, do you remember what brand of PCV Valve you bought when you changed yours? I'm still debating between the OEM or an aftermarket one. :p

Well I stick with mobil 1 synthetic. It matters more with turbos than without. One could argue that with the current regulations, almost all oils should be of acceptible quality, but I think everybody has their preferences. To me, after spending SOO much on the car, I don't mind spending more money for what I consider better quality maintainence.

Also, I remember Yogs saying something about it being okay to switch from regular to synthetic but don't go from synthetic back to regular because synthetic oil causes the tubes to expand and if you went back to regular oil, it'll shrink back and possibly crack or something (man, what a run-on sentence LOL). I too use Mobil 1.

Motor oil: Mobil 1 10w30.
Tranny oil: BG Synchro Shift II (I don't know what the weight is) http://www.3sxperformance.com/fluids.asp

I just got this car but before I go buying stuff, I was wondering how much the recommended amount of oil is for the motor?

And how much of that BG Synchro Shift II stuff would I need to fill the transmission up to a proper level? Would I need one or two or what?

Thanks for your help!

Wischmaster, I use 4 quarts of motor oil everytime I change my oil and have an extra one around for in case I run low. As far as tranny oil goes, I think it depends on whether or not you have a turbo. I have a '94 SL and 3sx and a couple sites that I've looked at says that I need 2.5 but when I actually did the change this past week, I only needed about 2. I looked in my owner's manual and it actually says that I need 2.1 quarts so I think some people have them kinda mixed up. But yeah, to be safe, I'd just buy 3. You could always just use the extra one for future changes and checks anyways so it won't go to waste.

On a different note, what type of 3s did you get? Got any pictures? :)

Oh, thanks for the info. I'll look into that.

But yeah, you asked for pictures so here they are.
Picked it up for $4,000.

It's the black one (obvious). The white stealth is my girlfriends'.

I'm happy with it. The only thing it needed was the flex-piping to be redone... was kinda unraveling. :-)

I like these pictures because it gives a good Stealth vs. 3000GT comparison view for visual differences.
