Ok, I've been debating weather to get a swap for the longest time. I've got a 5th gen hatchabck and want to put a B16A into it. Only problem is that I don't know if I should get SIR 1 or 2. I know it's a difference of 10 HP and over $1000. With $1000 you can earisly get more than 10 HP somewhere else. But there's got to be something else I'm missing. Got an answer?

the 1st gen is older, it comes with a cable trans which you can't use...a hydro trans will cost about $600 itself. The 1st gen is non obd which does not work in your car....you going to spend way more getting a 1st gen put in your car rather than a 2nd gen.

so basically it would be a complete waste of time and money to get the older one.

Converting the hydro trans to cable will be like $300 in itself, plus the damn wiring -- good luck with that one, plus your talking about an older motor. How many NORMAL nice 4th gens you see on the road compared to 5th gens? Now imagine them just being the motors -- see my point? Especially if they SIR motor is coming from Japan, it means its been sitting around in some junkyard collecting rust untill you bought it -- where at least the SIR2 will be a few less years abuse :)
