Serious exhaust questions

Ok I am in the market for a new exhaust system for my 94 M edition miata. I know all about the JR exhaust, Racing Beat, and so on, but I was wondering if any of you out there use the 5Zigen Pro Racer A-Spec series exhaust. Or if any of you have heard of any one using any after market exhaust like 5Zigen, Greddy, or Buddy Club. What I really like to know is is there a dramatic difference, or none at all, in HP from one another? Also I was wondering how much louder these exhaust are? Last question is will I be smog legal with these exhaust?

Never heard any of those exhausts, but you shouldn't have any problems with smog because mufflers have nothing to do with smog, only noise.

loud exhausts can be nice once in a while but if you plan on being in the car for more than 10 minutes at a time the throbbing can get your head really hurting!! you really have to listen to them, but the racing beat is supposed to be mellow without being obnoxious. find a miata club and convince some guys to make some nosie..

The basic deal is that none of these exhausts are going to very different in performance. The only real differences are going to be in the sound.

A good way to do it is to pick the diameter and have a muffler shop custom bend (make sure it is mandrel bending) you an exhaust and hang it for you. This is usually a lot cheaper than buying one of the others and will perform just as well. Then you can which ever muffler to get the right sound and volume for you.

why the exhaust? throw a turbo under the hood and then make a new exhaust worthwhile.
