TC swap questions

Hi all, considering purchasing a 98 JGC V8. It's got the full time 4wd. Haven't looked at it yet, but if the viscous coupler is bad and I'd want to switch to the part time TC, does anyone know the year(s) of the TC's that would fit? Alternately, how tough is it to replace the viscous coupler? Finally, what mpg can I expect from the 5.2L and full time?
Thanks in advance --

i would imagine an np 249 might work those are more in the newer wj GC's but you might have one. jeep has been known to mix and match their tc's i have a 93 ZJ with commandtrack and i have a np 242 out of an XJ but i have a friend that has the same year but quadratrac (AWD) with an np 231. get up under neithe the jeep and look for a little round tag on the backside of the tc and it will say one of these
NP 231
NP 242
NP 249
its most likely a NP 249
a viscous coupler is well deserved for a whole rebuild kit of a new tc but a whole new tc is rather pricy
the gas milage will probably be between 15 to 20 mpg

I hooked up with this guy and swapped my 249 out for a 242. Nice TC and a stand up guy! I have no problem reccomending this.
