engine swap

i own a second gen mr2 n/a and i want to swap in the jdm 3sgte but my resource stopped selling the engine and i was wanting to know where i could get the engine atleast if not the whole rear clip( engine tranny wireing harness and all that good stuff)

you should just get a usdm engine, the diffrences are very small and mostly based on japan having a higher octan rating at the pumps here,

wow i had no clue there was that big of a difference since the fuel cut is then at 18 instead of the 12 does that mean it would be safe to run with 17 or 18 boost on a jdm engine with all stock?

yes i under stand all that and I just didnt want to make a big paragraph about how all that adds up to only 45 more hp, but if you run that on the gas in usa you will NOT be making 245 hp, I actuly live in japan and have a jdm gen 2 mr2, I relize that there are a lot of diffrences with the engine, but it is puting out that much power cause it is tuned to the high octans they have here, you would be better off just getting a usdm motor for it and upgrading it with the money you save on shipping and all that rot, pluse in most cases you dont know what you are getting, cause all jdm motor swaps are usally useing lowmilage used engines, and you get what is shipped with little or no warrentty, at least with a usdm motor you will probley have a chance to see the engine runing before you put the money in to it and be able to talk with the privious owner and see what he has to saw about how it ran. pluse i cant rember but i think that motor wont pass some state smog regs ?

also it will be harder to find parts for the 3gen in the states

your right about the parts, smog, and not knowing what your getting till you got it part. The fuel difference is only 3 or 4 octane, our 94 is equal to 98 or 99 in japan. We use a differant method in the states. Also the 3rd gen is a underated motor so as not to compete with the supra that only has a 280 hp rating but actually puts down up to 353hp at the crank. Theres some agreement among makers in japan to have a 280 limit on rated hp. They couldnt have the Supra advertised as having only 10 or 20 more hp then the same year Mr2.

Not true at all. The 3rd gen is rated at 245 hp at the flywheel, which seems to be pretty accurate.

The gas is the same in Japan, it's just the there is a high octane number and a low octane number. Japan just uses the high octane number, but here in the US we use the average of the two. Japan 100 octane is the same as US 93 octane.

Not true.
Japanese pumps measure a DIFFERENT octane than what we have in the US. You can not compare numbers. Their is not "higher."

Secondly, the Jspec GenIII engine IS significantly better than the US engine. The head is completely different and flows much more air.

That being said, I would still stick to the US engine.

you missunderstood clawhammer, The stock gen 3 is rated at 245hp and the Supra is rated at 280hp. Both 3rd gen Mr2's and Supra's make more hp at the crank then they are rated at. I have had a hard time finding parts, but its much faster then any stock US turbo ive ever driven.
