On a scale of 1-10 how hard is swaping stock for stock turbo on a 95 tsi? Whats involved? Is it something i can do in the driveway>?

just the turbo..or the whole motor??
just the turbo..probably a 6
a whole motor swap...12
you CAN do it in the driveway if you have the right tools (wrenches, sockets, screwies, etc)

As for how hard it would be would kinda depend on how old the car is... the newer the easier...on a 1995 I would agree with gthompson97...about a 5-6....anything that has to do with loosening bolts/nuts on any of the exhaust line SUX ASS... especially the older it is...
New gaskets would be a wise choice... and if you are going to do a stock replacement... I would at least put a 14b in instead of a t25 just for a little more fun...price would be about the same also

Actually I think that if he wants a "stock" replacement for the ease of installment, a 14b wouldn't be the best decesion. If he were to actually make an upgrade, a big28 would be in order. Good luck either way. It's not all that hard really, just use a new manifold to turbo gasket, as well as turbo bolts AND washers. Both available at SBR. Prime the turbo before starting the motor. (take out the motor fuse and crank the engine over for a little bit to get some oil to the turbo). Goodluck, you shoud be fine.

If u do a used 14b, all you need is a 1g oil return line, SS oil feed line, walbro 190 fuel pump, MBC, and your other standard mods....intake, exhaust, new plugs and wires, etc

i don't think he wants to get into that. i would say if you're not big into mechanics, stick to a plain t-25 to t-25 swap

ok this is why i want to do a stock swap. my parents want me to get something that i dont have to do any work to , I on the other hand want something that is a good platform to mod. i found a 95 tsi for 4600 but it needs a new turbo so basically i just want something easy that i can do in a day or to so i dont have them yelling at me every 5 minutes. Its not that im mechanically inclined, I'm accuatly about a year away from becomming an ase certified auto tech and im still in high school(god i love P.S.E.O.) anyway thats the story

well shit then, a 14b installation with few supporting mods would be a cakewalk for you. as long as you can turn a wrench and have a general understanding of mechanics, it won't be that hard. (except maybe to get the exhaust nuts/bolts off :D)

a new fuel pump and turbo swap will take about a day and a half. exhaust will take a few hours depending how hard u work....im doin a 14b and all ive done to my car is intake, exhaust, and under drive pulley
before this car the only thing i knew was how to put gas in

He would also need a j pipe, and not need the 190. A rewired stock pump, if that, would be fine for his stock application. He wouldn't need an MBC, plugs wires, exhaust or intake. Stock stuff would suffice. That's more so when he wants to really mod it. A stock swap doesn't need all that jazz.
Not that it's not a good thing to do all of this, but not something needed right this second. A good used t25 can be had cheap these days. Same goes for a 14b. I am sure that you would be able to figure it all out, not difficult really. just don't forget the things I mentioned in my other post, about the gaskets and bolts. Replace that stud on the turbo with a bolt instead too.

dont need the j pipe because you would end up swapping to better LICP to handle the pressure of 17-18lbs of boost
All that stuff isnt needed, but it helps with the performance of your turbo
K&N air filter = 20
Dump tube hack
1g bov found on ebay for 50-60
adapter for it for 20
I spent about 500 on all this stuff, just search around and dont assume the first thing u find is the best deal

What are you talking about not needing a J-pipe? How did you attach your 14b to the LICP then?

he wouldn't need the 190 but i would still suggest an mbc so he can control the boost to his liking.

Dejon tool makes a LICP that goes straight from the turbo to the stock intercooler, its the pipes i have

Oh ok I get it, but you really dont need the whole LICP for the 14b to work. It would be better, but if your on a bugit just get the short j-pipe. It works the same.
But if you have the money it would probably be better to get the whole LICP, I blew my intercooler pipe off while I was racing and thought I blew the engine!

This install is easy. 4 bolts on the manifold, 3 bolts on the downpipe. Disconnect 2 oil lines at the filter housing and pan. Disconnect 2 water lines. A few bolts for heat shields... one o2 socket for the sensor.
Note, not in that order :) It's 100% simple, but how EASY it is depends on your mechanical skills and if your bolts are stubborn. Gaskets are somewhat reusable, but if you hate the wrench time, you might hate having to fix a leak later. Manifold-turbo gasket, turbo-o2 housing gasket, o2-downpipe gasket, crush washers are reusable, oil return gasket... did I miss anything?

Not that I can think of, water lines are reusable also
