Check out this Dash

Found the Escalade dash that will bolt right in to the 2000 - 2002 Silverado. Made a PayPal payment ($350 including shipping & mileage programmed in) and faxed over the mileage diclamer on Wednesday morning and had the dash on my doorstep Friday afternoon. New with the correct mileage and looks SMOOTH. :sunglasse
Really makes the dash look good, not distracting.
There went another 2 paychecks... :bricks1:
Check them out.

I'd really like one of those just for the Trans temp but, I can't justify it right now. Not when there are so many other necessary things that need money spent on them...

That cluster does look cool! Trans temp gauge is a nice option if you tow or drive it hard. My truck came with it.
01Blackerado

It just connects to the same port but it displays the tranny temp now!
Wiz- i understand the go before show cause I'm the same way, but If your tranny is getting to hot you at least know when to stop hittin it hard on the gas. Trans are supposed to be at their optimal performance level at about 125-150 degrees, when they get hotter than that they start to fail.

Plug-n-play. All 4L60E trans have the temp sensor and wires already. All you are missing currently is the pod in the dash. They don't sell the pod so even if you have an LT you need to upgrade to a better dash. Even with the heavy duty trailer package on my truck it did not come with the trans temp gauge.

Must be just the 3/4 and 1 tons in the chevy line? Every one I test drove had one as well as the one I bought.

I have the escalade cluster in my truck. I am very pleased with it. I bought it for two reasons, 1)tranny gauge 2)it matched my truck. Also I'm not a big fan of the white faced gauges, Everyone seems to have those.

How did you get the milage programed with out sending in your old unit for them to verify the actual mileage and engine hours? Thats why I havent changed my cluster yet, I dont want/cant have the down time. And everyone says for it to be legal they need the old one to verify.
jethro_3
05-25-2005, 08:30 PM
From that company you send in a fax that you sign to verify the mileage and hours. They file it with GM something or other and they send you a newly programed unit. Simple. Like I said I left town early Wednesday after faxing them the form and got back Friday afternoon and installed the new dash. I thought I already told you my truck was in the garage while I was out of town those days..... :D

20 minutes tops. Pull the dash trim, 4 screws on the dash, remove the wires to the old dash, hook up the wires to the new dash, screw in 4 screws, install the trim. Gloat big time and show it off to neighbors. That last step takes the longest....

Yeh, start at the driver side left and pull it around. Of course you have to put the parking brake on, turn the truck to the on position without starting it, put the truck in 1st and move the steering column to the lowest position to be able to get the trim off.

Here yah go Bigbad. The hardest part was getting the control unit apart. Just pull on the three main control knobs and they just pop off. They are tough but come off. Then half a dozen screws and the unit just comes apart be wary as the A/C recirc and Refresh buttons are just held in with pressure so they may fall out. Easy to re-assemble though.
Here are the pics of the LEDS....

Sorry for the blurriness; I had a poopy camera at the time. They were just off the shelf LED's that Installed but, must have been a different voltage as the first one I put in without a resistor lasted about 30 seconds before burning out. I put 350 ohm resistors in line with the LEDS and they are still burning bright to this day....
Let me know if you have any other questions or better pics of the install I may be persuaded to take it apart again.
Everybody keep an eye out for a Cluster with the Temp Gauge in it for me but, in KM/Hr
Cheers

Uh, I don't know about the entire AC control unit but you can get billet knobs, billet with colored rings or just stick some simple knobs on it from the Escalade AC. Some guys have even replaced the LEDs behind the AC switches with different colored ones.

Nah, the title of this topic is totally misleading... it's just the instrument cluster, not the whole dash. The Denali instrument cluster looks the same as the silverado's, but the speedo goes to 120, and theres's a tranny temp gauge and not just a dummy light. The Escalade looks much different, but has the same readouts as the denali.

If you want to go through the stock harness and sensor, you'll need the correct cluster and it should plug right in. Not sure if it goes through the ECU or not, but everything's there but the gauge from what I've read.
If you just want a gauge, there is always aftermarket. First name that comes to mind is Autometer. I found this from a search engine on where to hook up to the 4L60E trans:

Yes, your ABS, or Check engine light, or one of those will stay on with the new cluster. 99's and the some early 2k's have this problem with this cluster.
I am new to the site and was just wondering if this forum is fairly new? I have had this cluster in my 2k for at least 3 years. I believe way back then I paid under $200 for it and that included milage swap. This was kinda all the rage back then. I have been reading here for a few days and noticed a ton of topics that are pretty much "old news"
Sorry, just an honest question, don't mean to offend anyone.

No offense taken. If you can easily answer many of these questions that are "old news" to you, that's great. That's what we need.
Perhaps it is "new news" to a lot of readers because they may not have owned a NBS Chevy truck back then, so weren't involved in information forums on the subjects back when they were hot. Back in 2000, my Chevy truck was a 1990 K2500 plow truck, and the only mods that it was getting was replacing parts as they wore out.
My next truck was a nicer '95 K2500, so I wasn't watching this forum either. Now with my 2002, I'm finding out that GM has been producing trucks with many of the same issues for many years, and now a few new ones. This got me to the forum, to find fixes to the common problems. A co-worker with an '02 1500 told me to check it out, because I'd be amazed at how many other trucks had the same issues are ours.
