fuel gauge problem

i have a 2000 silverado ext. cab, 5.3, 2wd and i've been noticing that sometimes the fuel gauge either jumps up to full when i know its not and it also does the opposite, it goes to empty when i just filled up the tank. it usually does it when i'm at a stop or in park, while i'm driving it slowly goes to where it should be. has anybody else experienced this?

I got the same problem with my 99, 5.3l. Mine more often says it is empty than full....lol

what the h@ll does a fuel pressure regulator have to do with the fuel gauge. i would say that you need to replace the fuel gauge sending unit, which is in the fuel tank

i had a feeling i wasnt the only one with that problem, ive had my truck for about 2 weeks now.i would say its not the regulator, it seems to me that if u had too little or too much pressure that u would notice some kinda performance difference.its most likely a sending unit.but just like most of u mine only does it when its in park.as soon as i put it in drive it goes bac to normal so im not sweatin it yet.i dont wanna drop the tank that bad.i think id check the whole circuit to make sure its not just a loose connection before i spent the time and money on that stuff too.

hey you guys, You must accept my apoligizes, I am so so so sorry......really, I must have been tired or some stuff, so so sorry.....I didn't mean to say the regulator. It is the sending unit......so so sorry.....I know a lot of people have had this changed, including me.......The needle shows the incorrect fuel level.....you could have just filled the tank to full and the needle shows empty......or other way around......It is quite easy to change.....It is located on top of the gas tank. If you don't have a one of those mechanic lifts, the easiest way is to remove the bed.....There are eight screws holding it down, then just pop in the new sending unit.....and return the bed back......takes maybe 1 hour or so..... Also, when your lifting the bed, make sure you got a buddy around, to help you out......The bed is quite flexible, and you might twist it......Again, Sorry guys, I didn't mean to confuse anyone......sorry
