i have some Qs, i own a 95 z28 350 CID LT1 - 145,000 miles-, this morning i drove to work and turned the car off, after work i turned the car on and walked about 5 feet and the car just shut off, radio and other eletronics were still working. so i went to turn the car back on and it wont turn over. Called a mechanic friend of mine and he said to check the fuel shut off switch but i can not seem to find it he said it would probably be located in the trunk area near the spare tire, so i checked both sides still did not find it. After reading some post on here i am guessin maybe the fuel line maybe clogged or it could be the pump took a crap, but with the 95 i have heard the pumps located inside the tank and only way to check it is remove the fuel tank itself, is this true ?? One of my friends who knows a tad about cars checked all the fuses and they all looked ok, un hooked the air hose and got the car to run on carb. cleaner. but once i gave it gas the engine started to sputter and shut back off. From my stand point it sounds like the engine wants to turn over but is lackin gas, now i have heard that it also might be the distributor but would think the engine would do something different if it were the distributor. the fuel tank is full on gas so i know the cars not out, but it seems to act as if it were. If anyone has any knowledge to what happened and how i could possibly fix it to drive to a mechanic i would greatly appreciate it.

I woudl say your pump decided to go on a vacation (permanent one).

Do you hear it prime up when the key is turned to run?

a couple things:the permanent vacation thing sounds about right.but, there should be a shutoff switch in the trunk.its not gonna be vizible, u gotta pull panels and things out on most cars.theyre there so that in an accident it shuts the pump off so it doesnt pump fuel into a car if its burning.its just a breaker.under the hood should be a shrader valve(like the ones on ur tires)on the fuel rail.this is to depressurize the fuel line when u have to remove it to work on the car.it may or may not have a little cap on it. hold a rag over it and push it in with a screwdriver or something to open it and release the pressure if there is any.watch ur eyes lol.if theres pressure then go turn the key on and back off.go and push the valve open again.if nothing comes out then the pumps not working.id first try doin wut wrightz28 said tho and just listen for the pump to buzz when u turn the key on.if u have the pump replaced, then replace the fuel filter with it most definitely.at 145k miles a completely clogged and crappy filter is probably wut killed the pump in the first place.

well i replaced the filter about 1 month ago so its still fairly new. and i couldnt hear if the fuel pump was buzzin cuz the car was makin that dinging noise cuz the key was in the ignition.... but its at the mechanic atm and he said its most likely the pump from what he can tell but then again it could be ne thing, that and he said there is no fuel shut off switch in my car cuz its to old.... they only do that with new cars... but i will keep ya guys updated on what it is. Thanks for the help its much appreciated
