OK i need help. I bought this rx7 a few months back, and everything as going fine. When all of a sudden I idle the car, and it just shuts down.
The tranny is fine, it still burns gas. But it shuts off when Idle!

yo, I also live in ontario with an RX-7. Runs fine, but it gives some smoke. It's not oil, and I checked it to see if it was anti-freeze but it wasn't the case. Check that to see if it's the problem. As he said, what year is it?

shuts off, or stalls?u may have a intake leak or low compression on ur motor. mine runs fine till it gets warm, then stalls at idle. i got it tested, low compression.

Ok I got it checked at carax, its a 1993 MAzda rx-7 with 58,000 miles on it. And here are the results.

"Inspector's Additional Comments:
The engine was willing to start, but didn't start, most probably was out of gas. The seller was not really willing to put some gas. I thinks this car has some kind of electric problem, maybe with fuel delivery system, fuel pump, fuel pump relais, or something like this. The local repair shop didn't find the cause of the problem. Please do not forget that this car has a rotary engine, which has nothing in common with regular piston engine, and this complicates the things even more. This car needs a thorough checkup of the whole electric system, all sensors and computers and for obvious reasons I canoot do this. This engine cannot run "rich" or "poor", it's a computer controlled engine. The right flank, or at least the right door, seems to be repainted, the interior, seats and carpet are nice and clean. Headlights open and close. "

Ok, would this be hard to fix? and how costly would it be?

Do you need to start two thread to fix this problem?
Sounds to me like a very clogged fuel filter, if you can start it but wont idel then im assuming that the fuel pump just cant provide enough fuel to get it running.
Sounds to me like you have bought yourself into a lemon.

PS dont take hard lefts with less than 1/4 tank :P

Repair, well expect to drop 2-3k on it right away.

Who knows, just expect the worst, thats all you can do. People generaly can not tell you what is wrong over the internet with any accuracy as diagnosis requires tests and physicaly being there.

So I should be expecting to rebuild my whole engine right off the bat?
I talked to a mechanic, he said there appears to be a fuel injection problem? Is that serious?

honestly to be on the safe side, try to get a rebuild or reman, and then replace whats wrong with the fuel system. spending a whole bunch of money now is going to save a bunch down the road, especially when you want to modify the car.
