what is the 1/4 time on a 2000 accord w/ intake and exhaust. Anyone done any runs? lemme know an approxamation or actual times. thanks. Or if you know what it runs stock, I'd like to know that too. thanks.

A stock 4 cyl 98-02 accord will run around a 16.5@85 mph. Don't count on simple intake and exhaust mods to improve this very much.

That is for the 5-speed model mated to the 150 HP VTEC 4 cyl, not the 135 HP non-vtec. Sorry I forgot to clarify. I got those numbers confirmed by various sources, including car and driver magazine.

well damn. I have an auto EX (150hp VTEC) and I ran mid 18's w/ a short ram intake/ stock exhaust....is it supposed to be worse for an auto...geez. I was expecting 17's. What can I do to improve an auto accord. I've heard 2 1/4 piping back plus an after market muffler wouldn't do jack for me, would possibly lose horsepower doing that. Is that true....help?

Well, the short ram doesnt help you much. It can actually make you lose horsepower, since it sucks hot air from the engine compartment into your motor. Even if you go with a full I/H/E setup, you arent going to gain that much. Don't expect to get into the 15's or anything. The auto tranny really hurts the accord.

I don't call car and driver magazine a good source for any kind of track times..... Those idiots can't drive worht crap!!! They are the only people I have ever seen (that are suposed to be professionals) take a 200 Hp car and run like a high 15 or something crazy like.. espeacially when they are testing a car and I know some one who has the exact car and "THE PROS" run usally at least .5 sec or 1.0 sec slow.....
My wore out 93 accord runs a 17 flat and its a auto.... But I have done a few things and haven't been to a 1/4 track lately.... But on a fun note.. I beat a 98 lude at the 1/8 track!!!!! he was auto with the sports shifter and exaust.... But I won thats all that matters!!!!! :D

OK Electron.....I don't know wether you have a lot of experience at the track or racing cars in general......but just in case you don't, here is a tip for a bit better launch and hopefully better times. You need to raise the RPMs at the starting line.....you do this by pressing fairly hard on the brakes and pressing the gas at the same time.....in gear of course. It's called stalling, and You shold be able to raise your RPMs to about 2000 or maybe a bit more. Also, the short ram intake might be killing your power in 2 ways.....by feeding hot air into the engine and by killing air flow speed. Let me explaing what I mean....I had an intake like a short ram, but it was another company.....the pipe was kinda big....and I think it was killing air flow SPEED and killing torque big time. What I did was to put the stock box back in with a replacement K&N filter............but before I did that, I took out the baffles that are hidden under the air box. Now the car feels more torquey and the set up is like a cold air because the engine is now sucking from the empty space where the baffle used to be, away from engine heat.
I don't know how much more heavier your car is compared to mine, but you should definitaly run better than 18s.
Something else might be the altitude of where you raced. If the altitude is too high, it will definitaly kill power.
Hope some of this info helps.

I will be testing my new intake set up on Wed. night. I'll make sure to look for this post and give you some feedback.

Rick

Magazines such as car and driver and road & track, use life-throttle shifts while road testing cars. They dont powerbrake ecessively, and beat on equipment. This is probably why you can achieve faster times if you drive a car the way that it was not designed to be driven. Car and Driver is not a performace magazine geared towards cranking every last horsepower out of a car--nor is it geared towards shaving a few tenths off of a timeslip. As far as their credibility goes, I trust their info more than your friend's.

well I am sorry that you like to judge people who you don't know... but any way if a car isn't supposed to be driven hard why does every body do it??? Is the M3 supposed to be driven hard? what about porche? mustang? any of the race cars ring a bell???

Read the fine print below the test result archive in every road and track magazine. It says acceleration numbers are obtained using lift-throttle shifts. You are almost never going to run times identical right down to a tenth of a second anyhow. Temperature and altitude also play a key role, as well as what tires you are using. I don't think its too smart to call road & track and car & driver a bunch of idiots and say how your friend's personal test results are more accurate.

Okay.. THEY ARE IDIOTS!!! I never said any thing about tenth second differences.... I said full second and sometimes more!!! These people in these magazine do not know how to drive!!! I will put my friend up against any of those idiots!!!

I run low 13's to mid 13's. I have a cold air intake, catback/exhaust, headers, turbo, suspension. Next I plan to sell my car LOL or get nos.

I'm sure the 99 LX can run a good mid 15 to low 16 second 1/4... I'm in the process of making my 99 LX a bit faster, have Intake, and DC sports 421 header going in.. getting the PS revolution exhaust as soon as it is out.. trimming weight all around the car, and adding Tein SS, and rear Disc Brakes, with SS brake lines. Turbo will be added as soon as I get the money for a good kit... T25, or T3/T04e... I have piled up all the parts I took out of the car, and I'm going to weigh them all when I am close to complete.. and see how much fat I took out of my car... I call it putting a honda on a diet...

Hey guys let's get back to the game here...
If you add the regular bolt-ons you should gain some power and overall best time. Cold Air intakes are the way to go- you need to get more cold air into the engine if you want a bit of power. I have a 5 speed accord with all the regular bolt-ons except for a turbo. I can do mid 16s on it- but I don't like the fact that to get these numbers you have to beat on the car. Just one time is fine but don't mess up a perfectly good car just for numbers... enjoy the ride.

no way in hell could a 6th generation accord run mid 15's stock.
