Racing Z24 against SI

Just to my curiosity, which would most likly win in a race.
-Stock Z24 or Stock Civic SI?
I mean, when you look at all the specs, Z24 would be expected to win huh?, but from what i'm hearing the SI would probably take it.
Anyway what do you think?
Furthermore, give or take which car you think would win, how do you think you could improve the other automobile in order to come out on top (keeping a buget wise)?
(p.s., i posted this in the HONDA CIVIC forum to see if the responces would be any different due to favortism)

Z24 wins the short race, Civic pulls harder once both are rolling.

Well it really depends, not only on the power of the car. I mean you can lighten your car some with removing like spare tire and low gas in tank. Is the civic or z24 stick or auto. And who you think is the better driver. But really I'm undecided on which would win. Would be a good race to watch though. Let us know who wins.

si would win because it is half or more than the weight of a cavalier with both being standard id half to say from personal experiance the si would win.

i think the Z24 would pull of the line way faster then the SI but once you start goint the SI will catch up and pass.

If his SI is badged in the same fashion as your "Z22" it doesn't surprise me you won. You're a stock cavalier that some dealer or private owner sold to a naive person who thought such a thing as a "Z22" existed and wasn't just some dealer rice, and the other guy was driving a non-vtec SI...which, coincidentally, also doesn't exist.
Good job.

You gotta be a little more specific than that. Which model year are you reffering to? I know the Civic SI with the 160-HP motor only comes in manual, but is the cavy a manual or auto (if this was already mentioned, sorry for being redundant)? In the end, we can sit here and talk about who would win and why until we are blue in the face. Since these cars are similair in power, the best way to find out would be to line 'em up and have a go. If we are comparing a 2005 Mustang GT against a 2005 Honda Civic SI, then it would be a no brainer. In this case it is a different story. Also, let's say both these cars are manual, then driver experience will really be taken into consideration.

There was such a thing as a Z22. It was nothing special though. Had the same 2.2-liter pushrod cranking out a whopping 115-horses. It also had bigger wheels/tires and more bells and whistles. No performance mods of any kind.

the 99-00 SI only came with the b16a2 engine, this is a DOHC VTEC engine. they did not come any other way. it may have (for some odd reason) been swaped out for a non vtec (probably a D series), but that is un heard of.
the only non vtec DOHC engine honda had made in reasent times would ave been the ZC.
anyway i dont want to tire you guys out about honda shit you dont care about but the only SI honda Civic made in resent years DID HAVE A VTEC ENGINE. no if- and's- or buts about it!!!!!!
the 96-98 EX civic also has a SOHC VTEC engine (d16y8)

I just realized, that some people may be considering the SI as something different. In canada, the SI is equivalent to the EX. and the SI in the U.S. is called the SI-R in canada...
anyway, sorry for maybe not clearing up what i initially was asking. But yes, i was talkin about the DOHC VTEC si....

No they didn't. It depends on the year. Reserach it on the internet and find out. There were SI's that had the 160-horsepower 1.6-liter and there were also SI's with the 127-horsepower powerplant. I test drove one. It had an SI badge, and it sure didn't have the 160-horsepower motor. It was a 2000.
Keep in mind that I am in Canada, and there may have been different options with different trim levels offered here. I am not a Honda expert by no means, but know enough to tell ya that I have seen and driven SI's that had the 1.6-liter 127-horsepower engine. They also had plastic wheel covers instead of aluminum.

okay put it this way
no matter Canada or US. If it's SI then it's VTEC
Canada: SI = US: EX ---- SOHC VTEC (127 HP)
Canada: SIR = US: SI ---- DOHC VTEC (160 HP)
lol anyway..........this thread is starting to get out of context.

It doesn't exist. Period. If anything, your dealer convinced whoever bought the car that the rice package they put on it which consisted of nothing more than probably some different rims was a "performance package" and, in reality, it was just some options he selected and tried to convince people it was worth more b/c of it. You got tooled if you think a Z22 exists.
Don't believe me? Check the 8th digit in your VIN, for 96 if it's not a T, you got a base model and NOT a Z24. I'm guessing yours will have a 4, not a T.
Still don't believe me? Fine, how about this one. Check the 5th digit of your VIN number. Unless it's an "F" you do not have a Z model. My guess is that you'll have a "C" (base model) or an "E" (RS Model). But unless you got an "F," you do NOT have a Z. Period.

There was such a thing as a Z22! Maybe it never made it over to the States, but they were advertised in Canada in the mid 90's.

Exactly! I drove by one on my way to work this morning. Too bad I didn't have my digital camera with me to put an end to this huge mystery that could easily be solved by going to your preffered search engine and typing in "cavalier Z22". LOL
Anyways, let's get back on topic PLEASE!
Was there supposed to be a race between these two cars that this thread is based on? Any results yet?
