I have a 94 Bonneville SSE only 116000 miles on it. I have just recently put on new plugs & wires, gas filter, air filter, gasket & filter on transmission, new donut gasket on exhaust and new tires. It still runs bad on gas but not as bad i just recently noticed the transmission shifting weird but my mechanic friend told me it was nothing to worry about, however when I put it in any gear it sounds OK until I pull the shifter all the way down to first you can hear a major vaccum leak. When it is in park you can still hear it just not as good. I t sounds like it is coming up by the power steering reservoir, until I put it in first and it sounds like it is coming from under the car. Any suggestions what should I check??????

HOw could you tell it 's a vaccum leak?

IF it's comming from ner the power steering pump..it could a bad bearing on the pump itself or more likely the belt tesioner thats right abut the same place.

Try this..take spray can of carburator cleaner and spray around the intake and anywhere else you suspect a leak..with the engine running..if the idle at any time changes..you know for sure you have a leak.

Well it sounds like a vaccum leak. And when I pull the shifter down to first gear it really sounds like a vacuum leak, but it sounds like it is coming from under the car by the tranny. But I will try the carb. cleaner and tell you how that works.

Alright I tried the carb. cleaner and found nothing. The guy at auto zone even helped me, he said he thought it my be the cat. converter clogged and pushing exhaust back up through the pipe so I cut the cat. off and put a piece of strait pipe through there. I can still here the leak and it still does it when I pull it all the way down into first gear. Now What?????????
