Is my Fuel Pump bad?

Ever since I've had this 93 Voyager, I could hear the fuel pump buzzing away in the back of the car. I tried to start it the other day and it would not start and there was no buzzing in back. I pulled the air filter and sprayed some starter fluid in and it tried to start. I have looked for a fuse or breaker for the Fuel Pump but can not find one. So, do you think the pump just gave up the ghost or is there some little trick I am not aware of?. Thanks in advance.

If you don't hear the pump charging the system then it has probably gone bad and will need to be replaced. Make sure you check the fuse and the fuel pump relay first as this can cause the same problem. If both check out then the old fuel pump has to go.

Hi GTP Dad, I looked throughout the Owners Manual and it did not list a fuse or breaker or relay for the fuel pump. Is it listed as something else? Thanks.

The fuel pump fuse and relay should be in the power control center under the hood. If you look on the inside of the top is should show which fuse powers the fuel pump and which relay is the fuel pump relay. Most owners manuals don't show these to you as the manufacturers don't want you working on them. Once you know where to look though they are not hard to find.

I went through this on my 1990 GC. $600 later it worked fine. Most of my fuel lines were badly rotted so they needed replacing. If yours are in good shape the cost should be lower. The tank has to come out to access the fuel pump.
