Finally broke into the 13 second range with Stang

Recently at Moroso Speed way I finally broke in the 13 second range. I ran a best 13.870 @ 100.49 MPH with a mostly stock 1993 Mustang GT.

The car I raced was a Mitsubishi EVO we both pretty much ran neck and neck all the thru he did manage to edge me out by running a 13.719. I think I did pretty well considering that I was Naturally asperated and he was running a turbo.

The new Nitto 555R really grabbed and the car seemed to squat and take off straighter and with less tire spin. The New FRPP T5 makes a world of difference. I just replaced my old T5 with the new FRPP T5 the day before going to the track. I think when I get more use to the new tranny I should do better.

So what do you all think?

Timeslip is attached. You will need to blow it up to see it better as the scan was not so good. I am car # 42 on the right side of the slip.

Awesome run, I agree that you will do even better once you are used to the new transmission. Congratulations on the 13s.

Nice runs with the N/A 5.0 dude. 60 didn't look too terrible either. But that R/T...that's like how long it takes for my grandma to figure out the light has turned from red to green :icon16:

Nah, I'm j/k man. They'll get better over time.
Just remember....amber, amber, go, green :naughty:

I wouldn't call those mods you got there a stock mustang. But damn good run in your stang. I would kill for a 93 foxbody 5.0

One of my favorite cars is the 93 cobra.

Umm since when do EVOs cut 2.1sec 60 ft. times? Am I reading that wrong? I thought they cut like 1.7-1.8 60 ft times...must be trying to save his clutch, or better yet, his warranty.

Nice run though, very cool to break 13's.

Congrats on the 13s. Try to improve your 60' time, and then you might even see mid 13's. The Evo could have definetely done better, but I guess he wants his car to last.

Nice run for you ... surprising he had a 2.1 in the 60' with AWD. That is really weak.

Yea I thought so too, any way he still won so you have to give him the

I have broke 1.9 in the 60 foot but I oly did once and most of my runs are 2.1-2.3 60 foot... Still working on it though, and I am still getting use to the new FRPP T5... let me tell you I like this transmission.... Thinking of switching to 3:73 or 3:90 rear gears though.

Gear swaps in a 5.0 are one of the easiest/most effective ways to get your ET's down. Going from 3.08 to 3.73 can take close to a second off your ET. Problem is, they feel like shit driving around town, even with that 5 speed tranny. Try a 3.55 final gear, my buddy uses them and loves them.

Everyone I know that has 3.73s loves them. They all say though that they wish they put in 4.11s. Personally I would still go with the 373s because you will still get close to acceptable gas mileage.

Heh. A fox with 3.08's has no where near acceptable gas mileage, let alone anything lower. They are supposed to get 17 mpg on the highway stock, yeah right. Ford propaganda I say.

The thing about the 5.0 fox's with a 5 spd that makes them so nice out of the factory, is that the car is pretty much a perfect balance. The 3.08's match the 5 spd very nicely, and since the car is so torquey, it overcomes the tall final drive, as well as the slighty heavy wieght car. When you throw 3.73's and lower gears in the mix, it starts to throw of that nice balance of streetabilty/speed, as well as adding traction problems into the mix. Now of course lower gears will be faster in the 1320, but it will make for a somewhat jerky ride in the lower gears, as well as killing the already pisspoor gas mileage the car has with higher gears. Just my oppinion though, it's his 5.0, and he will do as he wishes.

Stupid question, but I'll ask anyways. Suppose at 80 in 5th you were running 3000 rpms with a 3.08 gear, would the rpms increase or decrease from a 3.73 gear?

Revs would increase a good amount.

I am actually running 3:55 gears at the present tiome. I am looking to goto a taller 3:73 or 3:90 gear because of the new FRPP T5. This T5 has a 2.95 first gear which is quite a bit different than the factory first gear. So any advise people.. Would it be worth it switch to a taller gear or leave well enough alone...
