Bad Wheel Bearing?

43k and change on the odometer
Recently, when I put the car into reverse, after the car starts rolling and I depress the brake pedal, I hear and feel sort of a "clicking." It dissapears after I move into drive and proceed with normal driving.
I am just wondering if its the CV joints, wheel bearing or (god forbid) the engine mounts. But I doubt it's #3.
The car would also make a similar popping/clicking sort of noise on the passenger side wheel area when turning at low speeds sometimes, especially after backing up out of a parking stall.
Just for more info, I have been plagued by surprise potholes (stupid NE winters) and have gone over a couple nasty ones going 30 or so, maybe that messed something up.
I have a mechanic buddy who is gonna check it out, but I am just wondering where to look first before I waste his time. Thanks!

The CV joints are probably the culprit especially if you hear it while turning the wheel at low speeds. I doubt it is a wheel bearing due to the fact that the bearing would make noise all the time.
