Headers.......???

I have a 88' Grand Marquis Wagon (aka Colony Park) that currently has the stock non-HO 5.0L. The exhaust manifolds are junk along with the rest of the exhaust and figured that I would just install some headers/duals as long as I was at it.....

What is the difference between short/long tube headers and how good are the factory ones compared to aftermarket...? I also have a highly modified 5.0L that I will be putting in as soon as the stocker starts getting tired and was hoping to use the headers I purchase on that one.......
